Confirmation on how Tel Trevura works...

By xanderf, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

So Tel Trevura, as in X-Wing, seems to survive death to some extent. However, my read of him is that he does so only within the existing game rules - IE., he doesn't (unlike Morna Kee) give you a new way to spend tokens.

For comparison...

With Morna, she specifically says flat-out you can spend a defense token to do X . Tel does not - he just indicates you get an extra ability IF YOU DO discard a defense token. My read is - 'if you do discard a defense token as part of the regular attack resolution his ability triggers'. Correct?

IE., the situation @stephen_harris70 and I had tonight. Tel was down to 2 health, had a scatter token exhausted, and fresh brace token. I hit him with 3 damage + 1 acc. I acc'd his scatter so he couldn't burn it, leaving him just his green brace. If he exhausts his brace, the attack is dropped to 2 damage - which kills him. But now he has an exhausted brace and exhausted scatter...no defense token was discarded, IE., his ability does not trigger. He couldn't, for example, just discard the brace token from an unexhausted (green) state, and couldn't discard the scatter due to the ACC result I had, so he just dies.

Correct?

Correct.

You can't just *discard* a Token. You need to have some mechanism to do so.

Cool, and as a follow-up (which I also think I know the answer to, just checking)...that 'mechanism' for Tel is, at present, only to spend the token during the 'spend defense tokens' step of an attack. While I can't imagine most other pilots caring about this nuance...that step does still happen even if the attack dice roll no damage , right?

IE., if Tel is fully green and I blast him with some black AA dice...roll 2 dice and get...blank-blank. That was still an attack, and he can still defend against it. IE., he can spend a defense token, and exhaust his brace for example... 0 damage divided by 0 = still 0 damage done, but now he's got a red brace token he can later use if another attack happens, to discard (assuming no ACC on it) and come back from the dead.

Yep, you can spend tokens against an attack that would do no damage.

Or contain when they aren’t hitting your hull, etc.

Works with Devastator too.

As above, correct.

Its also pertinent for Whisper

Follow-up question: what happens if Tel's defense token got discarded because of Sloane? Her ability does not trigger since it was your opponent (and not 'you' - Tel Trevura) that discarded the defense token?

Correct. As you pointed out, the "You" is the key there.
