I came across the following book at a local hobby store: " The Greenhill Armoured Fighting Vehicles Data Book". Under the M10/M18/M36 entries, ammunition was listed as HE, APC. I haven't been able to determine exact split, but maybe because the loads were tailored for missions and because supply quantities were handy.
M10
i believe normal split would 70 percent ap and 30 percent he/ wp although you could change that based on missions. and actually many times ammo mixes where changed based on mission if supply was available.

I agree. I was speaking with some guys who do WW2 reenactments...big armour buffs! They said the US TDs carried ample HE supplies to support the concussive fire idea.
Along the same line...have you given consideration to adding indirect artillery fire to the US TDs? Historical reports and technical specs support this capability. Moreover, most of the crews were from the artillery.
Actually Bazookajoe i haven't thought about it but yes that is something to consider as German STUG III AND IV'S and the 105 model also would have the indirect ability.

But since these vehicles cannot elevate their guns as much as mortars can, the "safe" hex radius around them should be considerably wider than the one-hex-radius od mortars.

In Flames of War, the StuGs do not have indirect fire capability, but the Sherman 105 does. I usually find the stats and abilities in FoW quite well researched. Looking at a StuG model, it is hard to imagine that the barrel could be elevated enough for indirect fire at any target on a tactical game board.

KlausFritsch, Yes, exactly. I very much like the Indirect Artillery rules for these vehicles found in your supplemental. Why are the FP factors for each additional gun so modest?
I have rad that the German SP guns could elevate...maybe larger minimum hex radius for the AT versions.

That would make them more interesting as well.
KlausFritsch has some excellent Indirect Artillery rules for such vehicles in his supplemental.

Because I assumed that the artillery cards represent battery fire of three or four guns, and I did not want on-board artillery to be much more powerful than off-board guns.

That would be possible, but you soon reach the edges of a typical ToI board if you start working with such a large minimum hex radius. Therefore, I am not sure that this is worth the effort.
Of course, I love playing on huge boards, so maybe I will look into this.
yes the Stug's have a limited gun elevation but you could indirect fire with them i think i'm about to go on vaction so i don't have my info books handy but i think its work looking into
Klaus could you e-mail me this suppemental bazookajoe is talking about to this address [email protected] i would be very interested in seeing it

The e-mail is on its way to you. The list can also be found here:
