Isn't that 40K stuff?

So... spacemarines for the next trilogy?

Also: I get the feeling they are trying to pull an Avengers Endgame sort or finale here, only skipping 10 or 12 build-up movies...

The Emperor does not need a flimsy gimmicky glove to show his love.

Were those actual horses they were riding in the last bit of that clip?

The Falcon’s Last Ride

Okay. I did enjoy that trailer.

Yes, and as it makes clear a moment or two later - riding horses on top of a Star Destroyer.

Why? Because: JJ Abrams. That's why. Doesn't have to make sense! He likes it better if it doesn't.

Y-Wing rolling and taking out 2 TIE's with it's forward guns.

Yup, checks out. :D

I genuinely don't know how I feel about this. Some of the scenes look good and yet others look totally out of place in the SW universe (horses!? WTF?!).

And whilst I like the idea of the return of Palpatine I kind of feel its not going to work by having it sprung on us three movies in with not so much as a hint in the previous two that he was involved. "Surprise! Palp did it!" seems a very lazy Deus Ex Machina and reeks of trying to overcome the issues TLJ created by killing Snoke.

I also don't understand how a Resistance that was down to a single 50+ year old freighter, a few fighters, and transport shuttles is suddenly a match again (where the **** did all those ships come from?!) for the First Order, despite their bumbling and incompetent leadership (The FO has never felt menacing in the same way the Empire did. Sure, they've the kit but it never felt plausible that such a pack of idiots could rise to such power).

No sign of the rumoured knights of Ren. If Palpatine is still alive, where is his counterbalance in the Force? Snoke and Luke, Rey and Kylo are all obvious. And looking at that cloud of warships, isn’t it lucky that the First Order don’t have Trajectory Simulators?

Also, all those ships and still no gunboat? What the ****?

Agreed except about the horses. Sorta. Beasts of burden have been a part of Star Wars since the beginning. Tusken Raiders riding banthas, Obi-wan on the iguana and the camel like animal, Jawas on rontos and such. But that said the way it was presented in the trailer... words fail me. I think it is not so much the horses as the entire "charging into battle" thing. But it really comes back to my big question.

What is this going to be about? All these trailers and I have no idea what this movie is going to be about. I read JJ's 2009 Star Trek described as a porcelain hamburger. And that's what I saw in that trailer: a porcelain hamburger.

Seriously, what ship doesn't this shot have?

No B-wing.

Only one B-wing in the entire trailer. I don't even know why I keep doing this. Where's MY fan service? Why isn't JJ making the specific movie that I have had planned in my head?

Man, people blaming JJ after TLJ gave him nothing to work with

Bring on the nonsense!

Can't be worse than cantobight

That is one of the things that really bothered me about TLJ is that it didn't add much of anything to the universe, it only removed things, except Canto Bite and Crait. Crait was rather boring, but it was supposed to be just an extreme environmental set piece like Hoth was, there wasn't much else about it, so okay. Canto Bite was interesting to me and I believe a good addition to the universe. There are a lot of stories that could be told around that place and the people there.

Everything else about the movie was just the writer destroying everything else that was previously built up by previous writers in the series.

I'm hopeful for the new movie, but yeah, its going to be an uphill climb for JJ to salvage the trilogy. He's serviceable, and can give the fans what they want to close things out.

I watched the trailer yesterday and again today and I felt... meh?

The weird thing is that I know that its not a factor of somehow not liking Star Wars (had one of my biggest Geek-gasm playing Vader Immortal on the Occulus), but watching the trailer, it feels like someone trying desperately to hit all the notes of previous movies with one big "nostalgia" button. This trailer kind of made me feel as though I would be fine just watching it on DVD or Netflix, but I know I can't do that because spoiler wise, I play X-Wing. We'll see how it goes I guess.

Yes. And TFA was a dreadful setup for everything. It just threw a bunch of stuff at the wall without a lot of rhyme or reason and for the sake of throwing a bunch of stuff at the wall. That's fine when you've got 22 hour long episodes to sort it all out. Not so much when you've got two and a half.

But that doesn't forgive TLJ for just flushing all of that down the drain. TLJ hit a big reset button and with this new film and it looks like JJ wants to continue the pissing contest Johnson started and ignore the reset.

Product cinema by focus group. They don't care if it is good. They care that we pay to see it.

And can someone tell me what the **** this is going to be about?

I have... concerns.

Beautiful effects, but I fear a lot of the 'fantastical' scenarios will be so poorly portrayed in the movie we'll need several other resources to figure it out. I’m not asking for every small detail described, but some sort of limit on how far to suspend my disbelief. JJ is a great effects director but I’ve not really been impressed by the films he's worked on... that may be unfairly pointed at him as a director and more towards the script/story teams...

Ultimately, the new saga movies have been fun but poorly integrated into the universe. (Rogue One and Solo had faults but felt like Star Wars) Very little felt like Star Wars. They’ve felt rushed and like the Story group responsible for approving and maintaining continuity are sleeping on the job. Nine is the closure of the saga, and if it’s the same it will leave a very sour taste in my mouth.

Oh well. No sense casting judgement before we watch the film, eh?

JJ is rule of cool first and foremost. I don't think JJ is actually very smart. He doesn't "get" that there are in fact rules. If he does he doesn't understand them or understand why he should follow them. I'm pretty sure he'd fail high school general science let alone physics or basic astronomy. He's like your grandma when you were a kid who knew that Star Trek and Star Wars were different but was clueless about what made them different and couldn't really keep them from bleeding together.

That’s a bit unfair. Not disagreeing with the rule of cool, mind you, just find the insults might be a bit thick.
