Scum Reppin' at Worlds

By feltipern1, in X-Wing

Big shout out to the fact that there were 3 Scum lists in the Top 8 at Worlds - Nearly half the field! Since I started off Scummy in 1.0, this is a nice bolstering of the faction.

The Torani Kulda Snap Shot combo was beautiful. I loved that list from when Travis and I commentated on it. I just want to squeeze in Seevor, since I want to do that in every scum list.

I didn't get a chance to watch the streams, unfortunately :( What was the gist of the list, and can I watch the game somewhere now?

I don't know if you can watch it now, but it's a GSP stream. It was Torani (R5P8 and Snap), Jostero, Torkil (Title Proton Bomb), and a generic Khiraxz. I don't remember if there was anything else in the list. It did really well: it has a variety of threats and uses tools people don't play against very often, so catches people off guard.

I liked the Seevor/Torkil and 3 Cartel Marauder Khirax ... So perfect in its simplicity.

FFG: "Uh oh, better nerf Scum asap".

That’s 200 points on the nose, so can’t be anything else :)

I feel you. I always put seevor in, and then I start taking all the pilots above initiative 3 out, and before I know it, all my lists end up looking very similar.

By the way, if Torani shoots someone in her bullseye, they are still defending when her ability triggers (for jostero purposes), right?

Correct

Thanks. I think they are still defending while she makes a bonus cluster missile shot at another target, too, which is weird, but cluster torani was a bit janky anyway.

How do you figure this? The one being shot at with the bonus attack is the defender. But the target of the original cluster shot is no longer the defender.

Edit*

Mmmk... I think I understand why people argue that cluster missiles can't trigger Jostero at all.

Ok, so in short(ish)... first cluster missile shoots at target A.

  • We then follow the attack sequence points 1-6 as described in RR (p4-p5)
  • At point 1.c we declare ship A as the defender.
  • We go through the motions, and finally at step 6.d. we " Resolve any of the attacking player's abilities that trigger "after you perform an attack" that grants a bonus attack ". Ie. we use the second cluster missile to attack target B.
  • Now we go through points 1 through 6 again. For the second attack, target B is the defender.

But.... since technically this is still part of the resolution of the initial attack step 6, A is also still defending and hence can't trigger Jostero.

This is just horribly confusing and once again I find myself hating RAW, timing, the timing chart and anything that simply doesn't feel reasonable.

So... for Torani to trigger Jostero you need to line up the bullseye, but shoot at a different ship(or line the bullseye up on two+ ships, at least one of which don't have or don't want to spend their green tokens to avoid the 1 point of damage).

Btw the most reliable trigger for Jostero is probably Feedback Array, followed by bombs.

So i guess they could quit saying Scum is the weakest faction now? 😊

I did play against the Torani/Torkal/Jostero/Cartel Marauder list on top 64.

The list was what you described.

As mentioned above, the list has a couple of tricks that, if you forget the triggers (Like I did) can punish you quite hard.

I must say that my opponent played really well and catch one of my ships in Torani's bulls eye, which meant the death of the ship.

Overall, it was a great game to play, from which I learned a lot and I really enjoyed chatting with him through the game.

Yes, that is the correct interpretation, and yes, it's quite bizarre that there are two defenders at once.

First off....I think it's amazing to see a Kimogila do so well.

Next, the timing of Torani's bonus damage.....she attacks and you resolve that. Then, the part about either removing a Green Token or take damage....is the person who takes damage still considered a defender? Or does Jestero activate for that damage?

Oh, if you can line up two ships in your Bulls Eye and do a Cluster Missile....ouch....

If the dmg/remove token is on the defender, then it doesn't trigger Jostero, if it is on something else in the Bullseye, it triggers Jostero

Furthermore, the first defender still counts as defending while she performs a cluster missile shot

In practice, crack shot on torani is almost as good as cluster missiles for much less points
