Poe / Talli / Asty

By Aladdynsane, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey all. First time posting a list, so if something like what I'm looking for is elsewhere (didn't notice it on the first few pages but could have missed it) please let me know. My FLGS's meta is mostly very maneuverable Imperial, First Order, and Scum ships. While there are a FEW swarms and Jedi, it's mostly those dang evil guys. I am consistently not able to get shots off because I'm getting outflanked, and I decided to build this list as a response to that.

I ran something similar last night but have made some tweaks. I know this list is far from done, though, so I need advice. I want to be as mobile as possible, with my goal to be to always keep ships in my firing arcs (duh) as efficiently as possible.

Poe Dameron (BB Astromech / Heavy Laser Cannon / S Foils / Predator / Advanced Optics)

Talli Lintra (Heroic)

Ello Asty (Heavy Laser Cannon / S Foils)

So you're working with trip res aces, a potent archetype, to be sure. But they are all expensive, so getting the best bang for your buck is vital!

Run Poe with R4 and Heroic, Ello with Heroic, and Nien with PA and Heroic, and you have 3 fairly tough, respectably maneuverable, and pleasantly efficient aces, with 11 points for seasoning and/or bid

Hi, @Aladdynsane !

Time on target is expensive in Resistance.

_____

POE

HLC and Predator don't combo. I'd say pick one or the other, but not both (unless you're happy for a single reroll at range one once a game).

Heroic is money on two agility. Ideally, Poe never even gets shot. But it's gonna happen if you're dancing with other aces.

10pts for Primed Thrusters and another 8 for BB8 on Poe helps him get around at I6. Slap an Ion Cannon on him for 5pts and just close the wings and you'll always be throwing 3+ dice.

Never not use Black One on Poe unless you're putting it on Nien on purpose instead. B1 is fun on Ello, but Poe really really appreciates the option at I6.

TALLIE

Tallie on has two dice, so she's gonna want rerolls on top of focus as much as possible. Lone Wolf is the answer for most 2/3 ship squads.

Her other issue is spending that token on offense, and having nothing left for defense against the low I generics.

Use Juke+LWolf and FerroPaint if you're worried about generic filler sniping her. Never dial a red and always Evade. Flip that gun as much as you need.

Use Heroic+LW and Primed Thrusters Vs I6 Aces. Fly squirrelly and nab annoying shots and especially blocks.when you see them.

ELLO

One of the only T70's where you can just slap Heroic and call it a day. Against aces, however, he's gonna want some more tricks.

Closing the wings should probably happen at some point so he can link focus from B.roll.

That means the aces are gonna arc Dodge your bullseye and make you throw 2 dice.

That means you want ordinance.

Throw Proton Torpedo on there to scare em good, but don't fly right in to the middle of things or he'll never shoot. Hold him back and sneak some Torps in midgame.

R3 astro gives you a second invaluable lock on another ace whenever you take that lock in round 2 or 3 of fighting (never r1 of engagement).

Locking two aces makes it harder for them to both get away fr the Torps.

Lastly, Afterburners. They'll try to murder Ello as soon as Poe B1 runs away, so ELLO will need all the moves he can get.

___________

If you hadn't noticed, the list I roughly suggested is between 211-220+ points.

_________

Here's a version that's kinda close that still fits:

New Squadron

(68) Poe Dameron [T-70 X-wing]
(2) R4 Astromech
(6) Afterburners
(1) Heroic
(6) Ferrosphere Paint
(2) Black One
Points: 85

(36) Tallissan Lintra [RZ-2 A-wing]
(1) Heroic
(1) Crack Shot
(4) Advanced Optics
Points: 42

(56) Ello Asty [T-70 X-wing]
(3) R3 Astromech
(6) Afterburners
(1) Heroic
(6) Ion Torpedoes
Points: 72

Total points: 199*

@gennataos Just won a Trial with Bb8 Poe + 45pt Lulo + Snap. I'm sure he could give some insight here.

Good luck with your list!

Thank you for all your responses, all! I'd love to hear from @gennataos about his list. I wonder if there's a place to find it online?

One thing that seemed to get me last time was that my 5's went after their 5's and my 6 went after their 6. I was thinking of paring some things down to get a bid, allowing me to do movement shenanigans to outmaneuver them and make it easier to get them in my arcs/bullseye. Any thoughts on that?

Resistance can't bid enough for that right now without really being on a knife's edge, which is why I personally drop Poe to Nien and run 3 at I5.

Until points adjust in January, I've personally put Poe on the "two ship list only" category.

That's totally just me, though.

Obviously, our friend @gennataos found differently (although I have to say it was a knife's edge - realllllly close - on a couple of his games).

I believe it was B1+BB8+Primed+Heroic Poe with CrackHeroic Lulo and Wexley with an R2 Regen Droid and probably composure? Or heroic.

This is my list. It doesn’t have a huge bid, so if you really want to move last, you’d probably have to do something like drop the regen droid on Snap. I don’t consider it a top tier list by any means, but it’s fun, thematic and virtually impossible to track everyone down.

Black Squadron (ft. Movie Poe)

(68) Poe Dameron [T-70 X-wing]
(8) BB-8
(0) Integrated S-foils
(1) Heroic
(10) Primed Thrusters
(2) Black One
Points: 89

(43) L'ulo L'ampar [RZ-2 A-wing]
(1) Heroic
(1) Crack Shot
Points: 45

(54) Temmin Wexley [T-70 X-wing]
(4) R2 Astromech
(0) Integrated S-foils
(1) Composure
Points: 59

Total points: 193

All excellent suggestions! Thank you! I'm going to play around with this tonight and let you know.

I’m curious about the R2 on snap. Was it super helpful? Or would those 4 points be better served as a bid?

I've found it very helpful. Snap is often going fast and the first to engage. That being the case, after he loses a few shields, it usually makes sense to have him kind of bug out and swing around, skipping a turn or two of firing. I often use both charges. If I don't, then I'm probably already winning anyway.

More bid might be useful, but I really don't know if there's much of a functional difference between 7 and 11 points. I can't get a super deep bid like lists that really want it and 7 points gets the bid somewhere around 9 times out of 10 against the field. I've also been able to handle aces moving after me, so while I certainly want to move last, I don't have to all of the time.
