Worlds interview ?? !!

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

Hey so I think everyone's really excited about how varied and WEIRD the lists were in this years Worlds.

I'd love to invite people who attended/saw the games in great detail/made the lists/flew to high scores to tell us how you made those weird lists. What were you thinking of doing? How did you know that this was the best variant you could make?

Why does Xwing 2.0 seem to allow for much weirder lists?

Also big congrats to everyone who flew!

Great question. 1.0 suffered from power creep such that a number of ships could no longer be competitively viable. For instance, the number of ships that could defend with 3 green dice, focus and evade, and other mods meant that 2-die ships (or a 1-die ship-remember that one?) would literally never do damage.

Also, FFG has had the benefit of a couple rounds of points revisions already. I read that almost every ship in the game appeared in the cut. The difference between the strongest builds and the average builds is narrow enough for people to succeed with different things.

2.0 balance is so much better that there are only a few ships and a dozen or so pilots that are actually bad. They’ve really pulled it off.

Yeah. I really would say this feel really really good balance wise. I'm loving it.

So glad we never fell for that fallacy that balance was impossible and we shouldn't try or complain about it.

Now we gotta get some smart peoples to talk

Totally agree, I don’t know anyone here that still thinks 2e was a bad idea. We all like it a lot more and improved balance is a big part of that

The worst thing is the increase in pieces and rules complexity. But that’s a small con against the massive pros of fun gameplay and better balance
