Kylo w/ Double Upsilons

By Da-Rock, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am playing this list soon and wanted some insight as to how it works etc:

Kylo

Advanced Optics

Hate

Starkiller Base Pilot

Bare

Starkiller Base Pilot

Biohexacrypt

My question is how does Kylo interact with this list compared to another Silencer pilot like Blackout or an SF pilot like Quickdraw? (What makes Kylo a better choice?)

Simple answer: the Force. It makes it so much easier to spend that focus for AdvOps. And the other two coordinating to him just gives him so much to do with those built-in mods.

Yup.

Only think I'd note is that enough folks have done well with Tavson, that it seems like he might be worth skipping the Hate and Optics on Kylo. They're both solid upgrades, but Tavson is really good. Particularly with Biohex, his extra actions give him *a lot* options for tanking damage, dealing damage, and supporting other ships.

There's a reason he's in 82.4% of lists with an Upsilon since the Dormitz/Tracking Data nerf.

So if I add Tavson and drop Hate and Advanced Optics, doesn't that mean I should remove Kylo and go with something lower to add upgrades or is it still best to stick with Kylo?

Personal taste says Trick Shot or Fanatical Blackout.

With me being the master of rolling the "Blank" dice, I can see how Kylo + Advanced Optics will work for me. If my Focus could ever be spent on modifying my dice then I would go with Blackout and Trick shot.

Tavson does look good, but I see a lot of Stress thrown out at me so I seem to always be Action restricted, (yes, a lot of it is due to my skill level with maneuvers). I don't know how many others have my issue with seeing the field as they say, but I really struggle with "Visualizing" moves. I typically play a lot of heavy duty ships. I desire to get better so I am hoping I can learn how with Kylo and still have what I am comfortable with in the Batwings.

Probably still best with Kylo. I think, roughly speaking, the priority starts with Tavson, takes Kylo next, then either a 2nd Upsilon or stuff on Kylo and a cheaper 3rd ship (with that last choice--2nd Ups or different 3rd ship--a lot less clear than Tavson > Kylo > Rest).

Ok, I ran a quick play test battle against double Sith Lords just to see how it flows move wise.

I really do like the Coordinate, but between being out of position or having burned my action on Coordinating Kylo, I can see the value of Tavson and his ability. I can even see the strategy of him getting hit and Coordinating Kylo to roll or boost after a Pilot 6 moved. I enjoyed Advanced Optics twice, but Hate was useless as I tried hard to keep out of Maul and Dooku's arcs.

Good stuff!

Honestly Hate is just a nice thing to have. Between Kylo and Vader, you don't want to get hit, BUT getting that force back to full strength means you can punch back in a turn most would be disengaging and running for a better shot. Maul's a different animal, (arguably so is Assaj as well as Force God Kanan builds) because he wants to keep getting force back for those double shots.

I have noticed with Force and Hate it seems to better on 3+ Force users compared to 2 or less. The 8 dice at range 1-3 from the Batwings are really nice when you add Kylo's 3 to 4 dice.
