Let's Speculate - What is next for the Civil War?

By hothorbust, in Star Wars: Legion

Lando (I can always hope)

Both factions just got more operatives. If anything, a new commander, or heavy unit would make more sense, or more corps in the form of Saw's Partisans/Mudtroopers.

Honestly, I hope what's next for GCW is a break to give CW some amount of time to catch up.

Since that's unlikely, another Heavy option for each is possible, as that would then give each slot at least three options.

They've been pretty clear that GCW releases are going to be slowed down until Clone Wars factions are caught up a bit.

nm brain fart...

How long is the backlog of announced but unreleased stuff? I can think of: Operative Luke and Vader, R2D2/C3P0, Dewbacks, Bunker, StormTrooper/Rebels upgrades, lets get those on shelves first

They said that, and then it is my understanding Disney said "Release GCW stuff" which is why we have the Bunker, Crashed Escape Pod (which is technically also Republic, but the terrain piece and accompanying "cinematic campaign" is entirely GCW in my understanding), Luke/Vader Operatives, and GCW core "Upgrades". CW wise, we have (beyond the stuff in the core set) Heavy supports, second corps options, second commander, and CW core "upgrades."

That doesn't look like GCW has slowed down, right now there are roughly equal number of upgrade "slots" for GCW as CW. Assuming each of these releases represent a single month of product (with the normal groupings), we have three of the next six months of GCW focused product, and that's assuming the four core "upgrades" are released at the same time. If they aren't, then we're looking at four of the next seven months being GCW focused product.

Things change, early announcements indicated commanders would be named characters exclusively, and then the generic commanders were released.

They only stated the operatives were specifically requested by Disney. Also, there's no reason you can't use that escape pod for clone Wars era. The Tantive IV was literally in the Clone Wars.

So Disney can request more GCW releases, and FFG has to say "how many?" The Corps unit upgrades also feel like a requested release, it seems a bit early to be upgrading the CW faction's initial corps units before releasing more units. Just because we know one release was announced as a request, doesn't mean the same doesn't hold true for other releases, FFG just hasn't SAID anything. I will admit I assumed the terrain pieces were also part of that, I'm a little disapointed if they aren't, I'd rather those "slots" were full of new units for CW.

We also haven't seen the battle cards for the escape pod, it is very possible that like the Downed AT-ST, the Escape Pod deployment cards will specify armies for use. Yes, you are free to play what you want, but that says what the intended factions for the terrain piece. I further admit that the escape pod would fit both eras, however it is more evocative (to me at least) of GCW than CW by far.

I know FFG would LIKE for there to be pause in GCW stuff, but Disney also has a say. There is a lot of time between now and when CW "catches up" for Disney to push out more GCW than FFG wants to release.

Well we know he is definitely coming , in the live interview with the Q&A the one reference was that he was a given for being included.

Ewok rangers and gliders, Tusken Raiders, Jawas, Banthas, and Mouse Droids.

Probe droids for the Empire!

infantries and vehicles, lots!!!

Lando, all the ESB bounty hunters, and Phase II Darktroopers and they'll never have to produce another GCW figure as far as I'm concerned.

Deeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwbaaaaaaaaaaaaacks.

As Caimheul1313 said, it really hasn't happened yet though. And honestly, it really doesn't look like it will any time soon if the Cassian/Iden expansion rumors are true.

Max Rebo, Amanin, Yak Face, Squid Head, Snaggletooth.

That would make sense given the live action TV show that is supposed to be on Disney+ at some point in the future.

And I've now seen a couple of webstores start listing Cassian Andor and K-2S0 as well as Iden Version and ID10 Commander expansions. Release date estimated as April 2020. So still waiting on a solid "pause" for GCW in my opinion.

If this listing is accurate, that's a very busy rest of the month for Legion releases... I'd be surprised if these are the releases, but stranger things have happened.

Edit: I'm assuming these kits will have the "Counterpart" keyword, but we'll see when they are officially announced.

Unless Disney overrules them. Which now that it’s happened it could happen again.

Honestly, I don’t plan to buy much else GCW beyond the heavy upgrades. Maybe eventually go back and look into the second wave of heavies or the shores or death troopers. I’ve got plenty of army choices for empire, a few for Rebels, and not many things that super excite me as must haves.

On the other hand, I’d be super excited for Rex and just about any Jedi commander or operative for the republic, as well as ARC troopers for an SF type. There’s lots of iconic (to me anyway) things to come, while most iconic GCW is already out for me and they’re on to next tier stuff.

Lando would make my cut for sure as a rare exception.
