Magnetizing General Grievous

By Uchidan1, in Star Wars: Legion

Has anyone taken on this task? I assembled Grievous last night and of his 6 arms I cannot decide on just 2...or 4...I want all the options. Especially his blaster, which if I am not equipping him with it, I don't want it on the model and vice versa.

However, this leads to magnets. He seems a bit difficult to do, so I wanted the community's input.

I just ordered AlexU Mag Magnets 400 pcs 2x1mm (1/16 x 1/32) which are super tiny. I am worried they are not strong enough to keep his arms "up".

With Clone Wars coming out this friday, I am sure others will have this question. Can anyone offer their wisdom?

How well do the arms stay in the torso without glue? I dont have the CW starter but the imperial models i've built all felt like they'd stay together on the table and being moved around without glue. Maybe you could just stick in the desired arms each game?

As two core sets is still one of the cheaper ways to start an army, many people will probably have two General Grievous and therefore not be magnetizing, instead opting for building one for each upgrade.

They do not attach to the torso without gluing them, sadly...

You would need 3-4 core sets if you wanted all the possible poses...I feel like magnetizing would be the best option unless you're buying 3 core sets of course.

I would do a variation of this. If the arm will stay put, just don't glue the one arm with the blaster. Paint both and put it in place. The size of the magnet will probably not hold the lightsaber arm very well.

You have to glue them to get them to stick. Think I need a bigger magnet?

Sorry, I meant to indicate just the difference between with blaster vs no blaster. It's not like he has an upgrade that changes his melee abilities.

Size of the magnet sometimes matters less than the strength of the magnet. Doesn't Grievous also have a different back (cape vs no cape, with no cape intended for the 4 arm variant) or am I remembering wrong?

Depending on how you place the arms, you can have a caped 4 armed grievous.

Ah okay, I wasn't sure if the 4 arm version would fit with the cape.

Look in the legion painting Facebook group. Search for Ben Jeatran. He has done a great job on Magnetic Grievous.

That's good to hear, I was planning to do that to help hide the wires for making his lightsabers light up

i will be taking on this project and magnetizing my Grievous so you can configure him any way. i've done it many times with 40k. but i admit Grievous will be more tricky. i got hundreds of magnets of varying sizes and a handdrill. it will be done.

With many folks getting multiple starter sets, there is no need to risk model damage with magnetization. Either you've gotten two or more Grievous kits, or you can easily acquire an additional one from Ebay. Then build multiple versions. I built my first version like this:

And here he is after a trip to my painter:

I fully plan to build another version from my second kit that is only armed with lightsabers (or custom build one with a electro-stave once those are a thing)

Indeed. It turned out great!

Hey, its our risk to take on our models. I said I'm gonna magnetize, so magnetize it is.

You could use poster putty on the arm to connect it if you want to swap out. It’s definitely a lot more easy than trying to glue magnets on.

You could try poster putty. It doesn’t damage the mini and leaves you with the option to possibly glue it down if you’re set on a particular look

Obi-wan does not like your idea of magnetizing
