Wave 4 released 8/2016. Wave 8 optimistically released Nov or Dec of 2019. So 2-3 years? LOL

They’re making two new factions - if you think it’s going to stay the same schedule as now, rather than actually building one — why would they bother at all?

I was just joking around. I'm sure they plan to up the production cycle, but I'm not too confident in it. Armada has suffered multiple delays over the years. Beyond that, Armada has had a crazy slow release schedule recently (over the last 2+ years). If you take a look at the first 5 waves, you are talking 5 waves in 1.5 years. Here's the sad part to consider. If they do like you say (1 in 5 waves), we'd actually starting getting new GCW waves in much quicker succession than we have over the last couple years....when there has only been the GCW ships.

Either way you shake the numbers out, my original 2-3 years estimate is probably not incorrect if they prioritize 4 waves of the new factions to get them up to par.

X-wing is still in high gear. Legion has two new factions to support. The new movies and shows will undoubtedly contain new material for all three games to expand (possibly into a 3rd pair of factions for both Legion and Armada). Unless X-wing and Legion slow down (which doesn't look to be the case), where is the sudden, rapid spin up of production going to come from?

Even with 4 waves of CW stuff dropping in 1 to 1.5 years, they are going to be outclassed by the existing factions for a good long while. Imagine trying to bring a list of only wave 1 or wave 1&2 to a tournament.

The cold hard truth is that the new factions are going to need a considerably amount of quick development and releases to make them viable, while it would also behoove them to continue GCW support...yet they still have two other properties that overshadow Armada. Unless FFG has expanded their production capabilities, I'm not sure how Armada will get the support it needs. Heck, they can't keep the current ships in decent stock as is, which is effecting current customers that are trying to get into the game and can't find ships like the Gladiator, ISD, Squadrons, etc... (over 1/3 of the current expansions are out of stock on FFG, and things are much bleaker if you look any where else). And none of those are listed as being reprinted right now.

I'm not saying it's a lost cause. I hope Armada starts drawing some of the priority it deserves. I can't wait to see what's on the horizon. But I'm not expecting a huge surge in Armada support, so I'm trying to keep my expectations realistic.

The easiest way to support CW material and GCW is to make some ships multi-faction (which I think they will have to do with the Republic anyways (and Venator is canon an Empire ship technically 😁).

That said, I would first do the Acclamator as a Republic/Empire dual faction ship as I’m sure the Venator will be the Republic flagship model (no pun intended).

Although sadly, I can’t see FFG doing this, despite how much sense it would make.

It appears that in Legends and Disney canon, the Empire abandoned the Venator. It's focus on being a carrier didn't seem to align with the Imperial Naval philosophy though it was used heavily in the early Imperial era.

It was so heavily associated with Jedi. However, they were used occasionally.

The Acclamator appears to have been used as a frigate within the Empire. It would be the best choice to show up in both continuities.

Despite showing up in the EU, it has no canon appearance in Imperial service and therefore seems unlikely.

The only post clone wars mention of the acclamator in disney canon is part if Hera Syndulla's new Republic fleet. While the Empire might have used a few early on like Venators we have no canonical information to support it unlike the Venators

The MC 30c and the Assault Frigate mark II have no canonical appearance either. The Decimator came from Star Wars: Galaxy. The Gladiator is also Legends.

Also, while the Victory has been mentioned and ships showed up in one of the Darth Vader comics that could have been Victories, they have no canonical image associated with them. So, FF just took the Legends version.

The cards use Corran Horn, Keyan Farlander, Baron Fel, Isard, and Maarek Stele.

FF borrows from both continuities.

All of these examples are from either wave 2 or earlier, or existing X-wing pilots. We've been given a strong indication the Mouse wants canon ships in that we haven't had EU-linked vessels for 4 years (squadrons likely get a little more leeway because of X-wing.)

The Acclamator itself is canon, at least, but it would be a definite break from policy that's apparently been in place since wave 3. Especially with the possibility of Republic Acclamators in the works, which could be a visually identical model...

*shrugs*

We'll see.

You guys think things are looking bad for the existing factions? Try to see things from the perspective of those of us who want the First Order and Resistance in the game! I suspect I'm going to have to wait at least five years before I get my hands on a Resurgent-class Star Destroyer or MC85! (Assuming FFG is still supporting the game by then.)

😆😭

Well, if The Rise of Skywalker trailer is anything to go by, you could run almost all non-Imperial/non-First Order ship together in a fleet and call it the Resistance faction.

Don't worry, you'll get your ridiculously big and ridiculously overpowered, yet still destructible by a single starfighter of Poe Star Destroyers. They will be just like our Star Destroyers, just... you know... bigger and cost twice as much.

So... inherently Star Wars like?

  • ridiculously big ☑️
  • ridiculously overpowered ☑️
  • yet still destructible by a single starfighter ☑️
  • Destroyers Deathstar

😜

You just described every imperial ship in the original trilogy. Congratulations.

And making them twice as big and ten times as powerful didn't fix this issue. But you can say the First Order is terrifying.....

To be fair, Starkiller base seemingly was the only one not to be destructible by a single starfighter.
