Garven Dreis’ ability: After you spend a focus token, you may choose 1 friendly ship at range 1-3. That ship gains 1 focus token.

Esege Tuketu: While a friendly ship at range 1-2 preforms an attack it may spend your focus tokens as if that ship has them.

My question is when Garven uses Esege’s tokens can I then give a token back to Esege? Garven’s ability says “a” focus token and not “your” focus token. It seems like it could be abused as an infinite loop of sorts. Especially if one of them has perceptive co-pilot.

Yes minus the infinite loop part due to " While a friendly ship at range 1-2 performs an attack ". The most Garven could get out of it is spending 2 of Esege's focus tokens leaving Esege with the same amount he started with due to the 2 attacks (1 primary or special attack + 1 bonus attack if an ability grants it, like Vet Tail Gunner on ARC-170 Garvin) per turn limit in standard play. Perceptive copilot really wouldn't do much with the Garvin Esege combo since it requires a Focus action be performed (at most either Esege or Garvin would have 2 focus tokens after they performed a Focus action). This doesn't include gaining a focus token through other means (IE Garvin's ability) since that is a separate effect from performing a Focus action.

Do it all the time with my Yes have one List. Remember garvin has to roll a focus and fire and be in range, so not perfect, but very fun!

The interaction was more fun in 1.0 where one could have multiple ways to spend a focus token (Calculate plus normal focus use, for example), but it's still neat. Try focusing with Garven and again with Esege + Perceptive Copilot for three focus tokens on Esege.
