Fixing Off-Kilter X-Wing Laser

By HooblaDGN, in X-Wing

Hey all,

Been away from x-wing for a long time after selling my collection and now I’m slowly getting back in with 2.0.

Got my core set today and one the x-wing’s lasers is just off enough to look a little funky. Now I don’t really think it’s quite off enough to justify contacting support, but I’d like to fix this off-kilter laser by just a few degrees if possible.

Does anybody have a simple and effective method of slightly correcting a slightly off laser on an x-wing?

Thanks for any help!

Caution on any attempts with hot water... local here tried it with a bit too hot and the guns shrivelled up into tiny stumps. Had to cut them all off.

Is it the whole gun or just the barrel? If just the barrel listen to Lag. Too much heat and you'll be able to shoot around corners. If it's the whole gun, you can try to carefully remove it using a single edge razor blade or a micro saw. Either way wrap your fingers with band-aids just in case.

I have heard that FFG is pretty good about replacing these if you reach out to their customer service.

I have given all of my X wings a coat of superglue around their weapons to give them a little extra strength.

Welcome back!

I've notice the first batch of T-70 in 2.0 all have a twisted wing. I haven't bought anymore since then but is a little annoying.

Just grab the offending laser cannon and gently tweak it. No hot water or anything required. They are thin enough that they bend easily.

This had happened to me and did exactly as Whalers said... Conatcted asmo sup and after sending them some pics then they sent me a T-65 replacement. Amazing customer support from my experience

I froze mine and snapped it out of the glue then flies it back. Could have gone south I guess though.

I can't speak to the flappy T-65s, but on the 1.0 non-flappy X-wings you could pop off the whole laser cannon, remove any offending excess glue or what-have-you and re-glue the cannon back on.

There's a tab that sticks up 90 degrees vertically that slots into a... slot on the cannon. If you can find a thin, flat, butter knife, ruler, screwdriver or similar wide (about 5 mm at the edge) and wedge it in there, you can rock it once or twice and it should pop right out.

That should do it, assuming the thin part of the cannon and the thicker part that mounts to the wing are aligned & true.

Thanks for the input all. My first go-around with this game I had a lot of quality issues and had to contact FFG frequently (IE my Imperial Raider came with a bent wing and I had to argue with them to replace it and make my case as to why it was not acceptable, they didn't accept it based on the photos despite the serious bend). That was years ago

I was hoping that these quality control issues had been resolved. Hopefully going forward they are, as there are so many cool new features on the newer ships like the B-wing moving wings and rotating cockpit, but I see even on Crabbok's videos he gets lasers that are off-skew on some of the new products.

I contacted FFG support rather than try to resolve this myself. I know these miniatures aren't crazy expensive compared to other hobbies, but I expect to get the product I paid for to a high standard of quality, and I will never be okay with ships with crooked lasers.

PS. Where in the heck are the x-wing forum avatars? I can't find my precious ships to set as my little picture.

PS Again. Where the heck is Tycho this edition?

Yeah, FFG customer support is pretty spot on.

No idea why we don't have many X-Wing related avatars. I kinda hate my green K

As for Tycho... one of many lost in the shuffle to 2.0. I'd be absolutely SHOCKED if we don't see him or his ability return to the A-Wing in a future pilot expansion pack... so, be sure to buy the first pack when it drops!
