Han or Hera?

By h0racio, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have been having fun with this list in the past weeks:

Hera Syndulla (73)
Nien Nunb (5)
Shield Upgrade (3)

Luke Skywalker (62)
R2 Astromech (4)
Shield Upgrade (6)
Servomotor S-Foils (0)

Jake Farrell (36)
Outmaneuver (6)
Total: 195

View in Yet Another Squad Builder 2.0

But now I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better with Han instead or Hera.

Han Solo (82)
Trick Shot (4)
Lando Calrissian (2)

I exchange Hera's maneuver shenanigan and Luke's additional shield for I6 and some action economy. The YT is also slightly more resilient, specially with Lando crew.

What do you think?

Hera is just...so much better than Han, imo. TBH, I'd have her loaded up a bit more, but your build is respectable

I think you're four points short to make that swap. What are you giving up? Trick Shot,R2 Astro, Shield Upgrade or Outmanuever?

Yeah I mentioned that I was thinking of giving up Luke's 3rd shield. I think it's the least critical upgrade.

You can fit Lando with Hera, plus FCS or extra shield.

How does Nien Nunb work with Hera in light of the latest Rules Reference update?

In a lovely way.

It is a mystery. Best option is go with how it did before while berating FFG for not properly sorting out the language of the change-the-difficulty-of-a-maneuver effects in the first place.

From what I'm reading, looks like the current understanding is that it doesn't work anymore. You reveal a white bank, execute it, then check difficulty and reduce it from white to blue.

That kinda ruins Hera for me...

This. Per the pinned "rulings" post: " constant effects that alter the difficulty of a maneuver, such as Nien Nunb [Crew] ,... apply only during the Execute Maneuver step and for effects that trigger after that ship executes a maneuver."

Activating has three steps, Reveal Dial, Execute Maneuver, and Perform Action. So, you reveal your dial. Hera looks at the dial without listening to Nein and, if desired, changes it. Then you move to Execute Maneuver, and Nien says, "Well, look at all these maneuvers I could have made blue for you, but you didn't care when it mattered." And Hera says, "Shut up, this is my ship, I'll fly it like I want," and then Nien shrugs and says, "Fine, it's not like I helped kill a Death Star or anything, what do I know," and then they sit in awkward silence for a while.

TL;DR: It doesn't work.

This new ruling really reinforces my idea that they rushed a bunch of stuff at the outset of 2nd or it just got shorted on development time. They really did not get these change difficulty of a maneuver effects sorted out correctly and then compounded it with the revealed maneuver effects. Ghost really got the bad end of it. Without Nien Hera pilot seems to be really begging to also have Hera crew ability. Then add Kanan crew and Chopper crew and you would have a thing.
