2019 Star Wars: Armada Prime Championships

Over 4 hours ( and a bad timezone change) to the nearest for me. /shrug

Well...one in NorCal and two in SoCal. Not too bad I guess...

Closest one to me is about 500 miles away... Not sure I will be going to one this year. It is a little furstrating as my local area SLC had one the first two years and we have a weekly game night with 10+ people showing up pretty regularly, its more than some regionals last year, from my understanding. I know my store applied I just dont understand.

Maybe they were late and didn't make the articles publication deadline? Our Manhattan coordinator usually has to push our local store to apply.

That is some pretty terrible distribution for the sites that were chosen. I am in New Hampshire so I luckily have a decent option in Massachusetts I can go to but the next closest options would be Virginia and crossing the border up to Canada. I was hoping to potentially hit a couple of these this year but instead I'm worried about getting a slot at the event as I'm assuming that we will be getting everyone from NY/NJ and north coming our way if they don't want to have to cross the border to Toronto. I understand wanting to keep the events limited but did Washington State really need 3 events while most of the non-coastal west has to make due with one in Colorado and one in Texas? I'm hoping a few more will get added but I can honestly say I'm disappointed with their choices.

The distribution has more to do with the application window. My FLGS missed it by a couple of days and didn't get a Prime after having hosted 4 a regional each year.

No one is talking about how they slipped in that Worlds is back at Adepticon again. Not sure I like that but last year was successful. I just don't like being at a con when I am just playing a game the whole time.

Looks like the whole Southern Hemisphere gets nothing atm.

Wow, this is sad. We only get 1 in texas and none in San Antonio when for the last 4 years we have had one and each year they were at max participants. Isnt worlds supposed to be invite only this year? How are they going to get enough people to play if its only if you win a prime or a past champion?

I'm in PA so I'm in the same boat. I may not make it to a Regional this year; I doubt I will go out to Virginia or Massachusetts.

Our most frequented Armada FLGS in Manhattan is usually late on these things, and they usually do run one.

In Jersey Highlander ran one last/two years ago and there was one other shop that hosted a regional in early 2019, about an hour Southwest of NYC. I've been trying to build a local group on Staten Island, the FLGS is supportive and will be placing orders for product....so there's that, but they're not big enough to host a regional.

So much for trying to increase the number they have per year. I'm TOing the one in Colorado, and the next closest for me is Iowa. Don't get me wrong, I will make that drive, but I was really hoping for more options for us in the West.

Edit: I suppose it does say "Check back for more events as we update this list." We could end up with more.

I didn't notice that line but that is awesome news. Hopefully that will start filling in some of the blank areas of the map.

Do notice that it's not a final list and other locations will pop up.

That feels a bit odd, given they are already covering dates over the entire season for the areas so far listed. ?Maybe they mean more international areas? As noted above, nothing for the southern hemisphere at all, and none in Asia either.

As someone who has never competed before, what's the standard procedure here? Can you just show up day of, or do you have to reserve a spot with the store in advance? I'm definitely intrigued, and am within relatively easy driving distance of both SoCal stores.

Last year the one I TOed in Chicagoland had 30 seats and it filled up with reservations within a few days. We had to turn people away. You can try showing up on the day of but I don't recommend it.

Almost always you have to sign up in advance - if the store doesn't require it, still do so if they give you the option. The number of slots each store can plan for is going to be fixed, as it's an all-day event they have to plan for, and when the slots fill up, they fill up. SOMETIMES you can show up day-of and get lucky and pick up a slot someone else dropped out of at the last minute, but it's not common in my experience.

Follow the store's FB page, or wherever they are posting their details, on what you need to do/bring. Usually they'll have you pay an entrance fee in advance - typically somewhere in the $20 range. You'll need to bring a couple printouts of your list (one for the TO to keep, another for players to reference during matches), obviously all your list with original cards (proxy cards are definitely NEVER allowed for Regionals), etc.

They are a lot of fun, but definitely a competitive event. It's a good community, but there is a lot more meaning to bad decisions in a game which increases the intensity a bit. And as you go through the three rounds being paired against someone with your same win-loss ratio (roughly), the game day either stays about the same or ramps up in difficulty a LOT, which is a great way to experience Armada.

Totally depends on your region, around here we have good turnout but showing up day of has never been a problem. As others have said your best to contact the stores directly.

Pittsburgh is hosed. The "best" one for me is literally St Petersburg Florida because I am in West Palm Beach that day, so "only" a 5 hr drive.

I'm in the same boat. The only one in Texas is in Houston! Nothing in Missouri (Not even in St Louis). Houston is 500 miles from Tulsa.

Fantasy Flight is awful at this. At least a few years ago they had some things within 350 miles.

Starting to look like IRL non-FFG events might need to become a thing. I get official support is nice, but this looks like minimal support.

And the Pacific Northwest gets 5. LOL
