Clone Wars Core Set Release?

By ArcticJedi, in Star Wars: Legion

I really don’t care about Clones. I enjoy styrofoam and glue and paint. You know what those things all have in common? They’re cheap.

I hear they were released quite a while ago too.

Everything is delayed....

"Capitalist behaviour" was supposed to be a de-escalation, not escalation, as it does not require any active ill-intent, just the motivation of profit ("Forget FFG, we're going to release early so we can steal pre-orders from other stores!" vs "We need to move product to get space back"). "Villainous" was to serve in direct opposition to "heroic" with "Capilitist behaviour" then as the neutral option.

Thing is, how did MM have the product already to start shipping it that early? October 4th was announced as the release date on September 17th, September 18th the further delay announced, and on September 19th people starting getting shipping notices from MM. Even for an October 4th release, that seems a bit early for most stores to be getting product to hold.

My understanding is the instructions were being sent to DISTRIBUTORS, who should not have sent product to stores that quickly. Miniature Market is a game store with an online presence, not an actual distributor (as far as I know), but through some arrangement with the US distributor got their Clone Wars product significantly earlier than other stores. If my FLGS had gotten the product that early, I'm sure some of the regulars who could be trusted not to post stuff online would also have been given the opportunity to buy the product, if only to free up the space in the walk-in closet that passes for their "back room."

So I don't blame MM for shipping anything, it makes sense that as a game store they would want storage space back, but I'm not going to call their behaviour "heroic" when their actions were not particularly brave or self sacrificing.

Sorry for the mix up on escalation/deescalation. Saying "x or just plain Y" to me sounds like Y is X without any pretense. I personally would have gone with something like "villain, or at least plain capitalist" as a deescalating phrase, as I think that's more how you intended it. Yay, the inability to read tones through the internet!

Anywho, I'd hazard a guess that the stuff shipped for the initial release, or at least the last release date they had been given. Remember, the core set was delayed at least once if not more prior to us getting the October 4th date. This could very well have been a case of them being told to hold, waiting on getting a date, the date being given then changed immediately, and the original date never being changed in the computer inventory system simply because they didn't have a date to fill in. As for why they'd have it so early, I thought they were a distributor, or at least had connections to them, and that's where the orders came from.

And as a related bit of news, it seems, going off of Discord and Facebook posts, that some FLGS have started getting Clone Wars core sets in stock, and have even started pushing out preorders. Likely this is being done solely because of the need to free up space, but it is interesting to see.

Yeah, I'm not surprised distribution centers are starting to ship things to the FLGSs early at this point, there is only so long product can sit in their warehouses before they start losing money or impacting distribution agreements with other companies. And then of course the FLGSs typically have even less storage space, so need to move product out rather than sit on it.

If the distributors in non-mainland Europe markets (going off of the rumours regarding German customs) have had product since September, then about now seems right for a "maximum delay request" to run out in contracts, or a cost of penalty vs cost of continued holding to swing in favour of freeing space up. Especially if they are also still sitting on Dewbacks waiting for new bases.

Last I heard, Asmodee (and I'm assuming FFG) has only one North American distributor: Alliance Game Distributors. MM just seems to be a large store in St. Louis Missouri with a decent online presence, and apparently a really good relationship with Alliance...

I mean, problems with business and politics seem fitting when talking about the Clone Wars/Prequels. Oddly thematic even...

When (for one example) Alexander the Great was both the head of state, and believed to be half-god, it was impossible for our pre-industrial ancestors to even imagine separating politics from religion in any meaningful way.

Someday (if all goes well) they'll say the same thing about our inability to keep politics and business separate.

Most likely, unless you have some particular flavor of jank in mind.

I can't see why you would need any of these unless you were playing in a tournament of some sort. I think this is more for people who did not play Legion the last couple of years and are just starting with clone wars
