Need help on decision - SSD build: Krennick or Goran

By Baudolino, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I`ve had 5 games with my SSD. 1x 600p and 4x 400p.

Won the 600p and won 2 out of 4 of the 400p matches. People I played knew they were going up against SSD and built their lists accordingly.

I`ve adapted my build in response to the matches i`ve had and i`m growing increasingly happy with my setup, but I can`t decide on whether to land on Krennick or Goran.

This is my current SSD build

I cannot decide whether to go for Krennick or Goran.

Goran has synergy with Woldar, but Goran only has range 2. OK for defense, but not enough for intercepting anything.

Krennick works both against squads and ships, but even with Thrawn I find I struggle to have "concentrate fire" dials and tokens for more than 2 rounds.

SSD needs lots of enginnering commands to stay afloat.

Please give me some input on why I should go for one or the other..

Krennic does sit well on the ssd. With as few squads as you have I don’t think Goran helps as much. But I do want to point out opening salvo you can lose a game because I rammed the ssd once with a small ship yes it will die but loose 50-75 points to gain 150

I recommend adding DCO instead of either. But Krennic > Goran here, because Goran gets completely shut down by Intel.

I don’t feel there’s enough squadrons to fuel a Woldar/Goran gimmick.

Maybe if they were all interceptors instead... but then, all interceptors...

Woldar doesn't work with Interceptors.

Imo swap both to DCO and Palpatine and the squads to a coms net. Depending upon your meta Overload Pulse + Palpatine make for an amusing combo.

Right right.

Give Advanced a go? 😁

The only way to guarantee millage with Goran is taking Advanced Transponder Net negating *Intel*, not enough squads in the list imo to be worth the setup.

Drop Woldar and Goran for DCO in my opinion and then what ever officer you think will get the most effective use throughout the game.

Krennic you really need to be smashing away the CF dials and staying beyond medium range to get his worth which means compromising survivability, but having Thrawn negates that as I assume he is there for Engineering dials.

If your not glued to the squadrons, maybe a pair of repair Gozanti?

Objectives I would suggest Most Wanted, Asteroid Tactics and Dangerous Territory maybe? Dont take damage from rocks, Third Officer maybe Palp or Brunson?

If it was me I would do something like this maybe?

Name: Thrawn SSD
Faction: Imperial
Commander: Grand Admiral Thrawn

Assault: Most Wanted
Defense: Asteroid Tactics
Navigation: Dangerous Territory

SSD Assault Prototype (250)
• Grand Admiral Thrawn (32)
• Damage Control Officer (5)
• Emperor Palpatine (3)
• Agent Kallus (3)
• Gunnery Team (7)
• Quad Laser Turrets (5)
• Point-Defense Reroute (5)
• Leading Shots (4)
• Heavy Ion Emplacements (9)
• Quad Battery Turrets (5)
• Linked Turbolaser Towers (7)
• Ravager (4)
= 339 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Repair Crews (4)
= 27 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Repair Crews (4)
= 27 Points

Squadrons:
= 0 Points

Total Points: 393

Just a suggestion.

Goran doesn't work on Heavy squadrons, meaning if they have Intel your counter disappears, even if they aren't able to bomb.

I'll say it: he's a terrible officer. His range requirement means you can't work around enemy Intel, which completely nullifies him. Meaning the situations where you need him most, where you're trying to wear down a heavy squadron wing with flak and a screen, are precisely the times he does nothing against a halfway decent opponent. And the Imperial squads who best use that counter are generally fragile things like Interceptors and TIEs who really want to hit first and can't without flying out of his range.

If he were Rebel and had the Heavy restriction lifted, he might compete with Adar and be friends with Toryn. Pity.
