Blog - The Nantex Strength and Weaknesses

By Resolver, in X-Wing

I definitely disagree on asteroids as a weakness of the Nantex. At best, it's a wash for them, as they can easily turn those obstacles against you to prevent a shot.

Debris clouds are probably going to be the strongest option against them. They don't prevent you from performing an attack, and a Nantex overlapping one can't give itself a tractor token.

Just wanted to clarify - in your blog, you mentioned this:

  • Rotating Arc (not backwards)
    • See damage potential above with different pilots
    • It can shoot out the bullseye firing arc if the rotating arc is set to either side.

The turret arc can also face forward and shoot forward. Didn't know if you meant that as well.

Fixed, thanks. I had another comment about this was unclear.

Asteroids are the strengths of it and in some scenarios it can be it's weakness as well. But yes, usually it plays to their strength.

You failed to mention how the ship takes a giant **** on any and every starviper.

Things I would note:

  • Gorgol The Handy
    • He does let you fix a ship critical but that just flips the damage card face-down; it's not a patch on Impervium Plating discarding the card before it ever triggers. It basically lets you fix a critical by giving up Gorgol's attack instead of the recipient's action (relative value varies)
    • More critically, he also gives the ship a tractor token when he does so. This is as important as the damage fix.
      • This allows that ship to reposition in the system phase before it activates (it's not as good as BB-8 and Supernatural Reflexes, but the dude's 36 points and works at range 1-2; did you want the moon on a stick?)
      • It also allows a ship to have a tractor token at the end of the activation phase without triggering Pinpoint Tractor Array. This is especially important if a Nantex pilot's turret is currently pointed 'the right way' - if, for example, your arc is forwards and you're closing on a target, you can just do a gentle 1 bank and keep your bullseye lined up rather than having to peel off and slew your turret sideways if you want to ensnare them.
  • Asteroids
    • Don't forget that whilst using the Nantex's pinpoint tractor array as a kind of 'gravity autothrusters' is very forgiving of other ships (because it's 'after you execute' not 'fully execute') it's not forgiving in the slightest of obstacles.
      • Because yes, you can use Pinpoint tractor array to boost yourself off a rock. But you can also use it to accidentally boost or roll yourself onto one. Be very, very sure you have space when planning to do silly stuff in an enclosed environment!

Very good points, added them to the on-going info gathering about the Nantex.

It's very good vs all small base ships including the starviper 😕 And yes, very unfortunate that the BR is done with the ships action bar for the Viper.
