How many ships can the huge ship conversion kit convert?

By whafrog, in X-Wing

I have all the v1 huge ships. I've been sitting on v2...got distracted with Armada for a while. But with the huge ship conversion kit, my interest is piqued again. So I'm wondering how many conversion kits I would need, is one enough for a single huge ship from each faction in a game?

The Conversion Kit page lists a copy of each ship card, so I imagine you'll be able to run one copy of each huge ship off a single conversion kit.

However, I also imagine that they'll put the two factions for each ship on opposite sides of the same cardboard to save space, so you might struggle to run a Republic CR90 and Rebel CR90 at the same time.

This kit also contains a plastic huge ship maneuver tool, a huge ship range ruler, two huge ship resource trackers, and a huge ship damage deck that can be used with any huge ship!

Somewhere (FFG stream or video?) it was stated that there are 2 plastic bases in the pack. So with the caveat, what is printed on which sides of the cardboard inlets, you seem to be able to field 2 Huge ships (sharing a damage deck between them) per conversion kit.

You need two plastic bases per huge ship still don't you?

No; if I've understood everything correctly, they have created new bases which are a single piece of plastic (which enable the speed-zero moves to be performed). There are two of these in the kit.

There does seem to be enough to run 2 ships at once in the kit, apart from damage decks so this would need to be shared.

2 bases, 2 heath trackers, plenty of upgrade cards, a selection of titles for all huge ships.

This is fine for casual play where you can share damage decks, if you have a couple huge ships you can have some friends over and just use yours.

Nope, it’s one mega piece of plastic now.

But yes, the answer is you can convert 1/each huge ship model with this conversion kit, with the caveat that you can really only use two of them at once because of the base inclusion limits.

Oh, goody. I can't wait to hear people try to justify complaining about that .

Do the kits come with the templates, or is that in the other Epic expansion?

At $30 a kit, you get what you need to field 2 huge ships at once, and all the cards/boards. Its not bad. Not many games see people fielding more than 1 huge ship at a time, so you can even use one kit for 1v1 play unless you are doing something atypically large, in which case you are already probably used to shelling out a ton of money for unusual conditions.

Yeah you should be pretty well set with two kits, I’d think, unless you’re looking to display all of your ships on the new bases.

Yes the kit has a plastic huge ship movement template that appears to match FFG’s factory plastic templates.

I'm curious to see how much fudge factor there is with the old bases and the new movement template. A lot of my huges live one per shoebox and permanently on their bases.

Because I might not worry about it too much for home play, and I'm certainly not re-basing a dozen ships.

Don't forget there are only 2 ship tracker things in each kit, as well. Those things that mark energy and shields.

Thats right, but you can always use a pair of d12-20 with the matching colors for shields and energy to count those...

All too true. I'm getting 2 conversion kits...

...and hoping to be able to keep using the existing bases (whilst drawing on their new arcs etc) when fielding more than 4 of my huge ships.

And using dice for trackers, as @Mpori says.

Well, presuming you didn't have a bout of post 1.0 berserker rage and garbage can arson, you've still got tokens for Energy (and of course, Shields).

I have s**tloads of energy tokens yeah, but I want the dance dials.

I think I'd be happy to buy 2 kits provided it isn't that expensive, given its technically only letting you use too ships I'd hope it won't be too expensive, but there's certainly a line where I can easily justify complaints. I have 4 huge ships and buying 2 kits will be a big waste of a load of card no one will need.

Why are people talking like you’re going got run 4+ huge ships at once? What kind of games do you guys play?

Do that many huge ships even comfortably fit on the board?

Cuz we do it.

Fair enough, but I would hope that those who play this way understand that it's not how most people are playing, and not what FFG had in mind when they developed the kits.

Yeah, one Conversion Kit is perfect for me. Can't see myself buying more than that. Also:

Can we PLEASE start calling them dance dials? That's awesome! 🤣

I own big Rebel and Imperial forces and both of their huge ships. When epic comes out I want to be flying squadrons around the huges and at least have the option to have 2 on each side.

I even have those large 1 inch epic sized tokens from Sling Paint.

Last epic game I played in had 11 huge ships on 4 mats. 3 Imperial Transports, escorted by 2 Raiders and 2 Gozantis, plus Sabre Squadron being ambushed by a mixed Rebel and Scum force including 2 C-ROCs plus 2 CR90s.

We had 2000pts per side.

Oh, yes. I expect many people to whinge about having to buy an entire kit just to convert their pair of huge ships and being unable to make use of the spare cardboard - not enough bases, 'dance dials', or damage decks to be able to sell on the remaining bits.
