With only days left until the widespread distribution of weapons of indiscriminate destruction, I call upon all people of sound mind.

I suggest a convention on the prohibition of the use, stockpiling and transfer of proximity mines.

Think of the children...

I was thinking of the children when I laid those mines.

They dont explode from fighters, they require capital ships to detonate. The kids will be fine.

If there's no interest in a convertion to save the children, perhaps we could at least make a measly pledge to send in some thorough minesweepers at the end of every fleet engagement...

I think the biggest crime these lists commit is the setup time...

Peltas also have 4 Engineering, and the right upgrade slot. Just FYI.

You're right. Five Peltas, one GR-75 and Mart Mattis can place even one more mine.

So up to 34 mines all in all.


I just re-read the rules. Not all of these mines have to be at distance 1 from one another. The mines of the objective Minefields are placed during setup and must be placed beyond distance 1 of other objective tokens.

When proximity mines are placed before deploying fleets, they just have to be placed beyond distance 1 of other proximity mines. Ergo, they could be placed right on top of a minefields mine, or in a tight cluster surrounding a minefields mine.

If a ship ends its movement there, it may very well be hit by a dozen or more mines at once.


Community challenge:
What's the maximum number of mines a ship could trigger at once, or alternatively, in one activation?

Thesis: A large-based Liberty with engine techs may be most suicidal.

Or an SSD which voluntarily deploys right in the middle of the path of all minefields...

For reference:

Minefields.

"Setup: The second player places all obstacles. He can place them anywhere in the setup area (even in deployment zones) and must place them beyond distance 5 of each other. Then he places 6 objective tokens. Each objective token must be placed at distance 1 of an obstacle and beyond distance 1 of all other objective tokens."

Proximity Mines.

"Before deploying fleets, you may discard this card to place a number of proximity mine tokens equal to half your engineering value, rounded down. You may place these tokens anywhere in the play area beyond distance 5 of enemy ships (and distance 1 of each other)."


"When proximity mine tokens are placed, they must be placed beyond distance 1 of any proximity mine tokens."

I’ve personally witnessed an SSD hit 9 at once with a speed 2 maneuver.

3 proximity mines and all 6 minefields (and an asteroid, but that’s neithr here nor there).

It would have been 11, but it managed to splash two before moving.

Due to wanting to avoid my G7 Nose Punch, and I titus’d It up to 2.

Opponent flying it said the mines alone were preferable to mines AND speed 0 damage AND taking multiple debris/asteroid each turn. Got it over with quickly and he could start on Engine away.

Toying around, nothing finalized yet 🙂

Threw prox mines on both Interdictor s (instead one EHB on one of them), dropped the squad Punch to 2 squads, and had Gozabtis with mines

Throw on Engineering team I think you get 3 mines on each Interdictor
