Need some inspiration (again)

By OddballE8, in Game Masters

So, I recently started a campaign.

It's an EotE campaign and the players started off as imperial prisoners on a prison transport on Tattooine.
The transport was ambushed by rebels just inside Nal Hutta and the rebels freed another prisoner, leaving the players in the wind.

So, after that start, I basically ran the session as a variant of the beginners game for EotE.

However , as often happens, the players didn't exactly do what I expected.

Anyway, long story short (I actually thought about typing out the events, but I'm not sure anyone would want to read that), they ended up escaping off Tattoine in a stolen imperial shuttle, with nothing except imperial prisoner uniforms and a light blaster pistol.

They made their way to Rishii, where they had to trade the ship for safe passage (due to dumb player actions) and sold off their one hostage for a few hundred credits to get food and shelter.

Now, I have to come up with something for the next session, but I'm struggling to come up with anything right now.

I know the general idea that I want.

I want them to be hired by some pirate to do some impossible job (of course, the players don't know it's impossible) for him.

Ideally something along the lines of him wanting them to attack a rival, but wearing another rivals "signature gear" (again, without the players knowledge), and dying so that he can spark a war between the rivals.

However, the players should survive and come back... much to his dismay (but also still working out, since it'll still spark the war... only he has to pay the players)

Something like that. But work is really busy right now and I'm just coming up with a blank when I try to figure something out.

So, really, anything would be appreciated... characters, character names, side plots, main plots, anything really.

EDIT: Ideally, these characters that they interact with now will become recurring characters in their adventures on Rishii, so I don't just want to put a generic pirate captain NPC infront of them... you know? They already have a cantina where they live and a contact for finding jobs (a smuggler named Captain Rex... yes, not very original, I know...)

Hey if you have time to type it up I think people like to read play journals, I know I do :)

Also I employ something that I call my Hook Filter to hook ideas and try to view it from the players perspective. It has 5 questions:

  1. Are there consequences for doing it?
  2. Are there consequences for not doing it?
  3. Does it fit their Motivation and personalities?
  4. Does it seem like they can actually accomplish it?
  5. Risk vs. Reward - Does it pay off in some way that makes the apparent risk seem worth the attempt?

I might type out the play journal, if I have the time.

In the end, I did come up with a pretty decent idea.
I even found some maps and images for NPC's :P

But, as this is a completely new group for me, their possible actions are a bit unknown for me. So we'll see how it goes.

I do have a thought. Ryloth is the Twi'lek homeworld and Roon (also nearby) is a Twi'lek colony.

At least in my campaign, both are chief producers of the Twi'lek "Spice" a notorious intoxicant.

In my campaign there are any number of entities that would love to corner the spice market including, the various Governors of Ryloth & Roon (for their respective worlds) any number of local Twi'lek toughs, the Black Sun, "Crimson Dawn", and ANY Hutt worth their lard.

I have gotten a ton of milage out of my PC's getting involved with the spice trade with Roon alone.

The Governor of Roon is Ajon'mido and he's taken up residence in the Capital (Ultime'Roon) in the governor's palace. He displaced the previous governor in a violent Coup d'etat. But don't feel too bad, because he also displaced his previous governor with a violent coup as well.

Roon itself has scores of plantations surrounding the mostly flat arid plains surrounding Ultime'Roon the local farmers band together in clan like social structures. And more powerful family leaders will occasionally make a bid to displace the current governor through force of arms.

Roon is a mostly self sufficient agriworld and can sustain it's own food supply, but it's chief export is Roon Spice.

In my campaign, Ajon'mido is doing pretty well as a governor and has been able to secure his rule by purchasing a handful of cloak shaped fighters (EotE) so that he enjoys aerospace superiority.

But the offworld competition is still pretty stiff and Ajon'mido is still fighting off third party attempts to cut him out of the supply loop. And since the government's chief source of revenue comes from the sale of spice, Ajon is well motivated to STAY in the loop.

You could easily have similar set ups across Ryloth where there are many towns and cities that are also facing similar competitive pressures.

Ok, so the basic idea I decided to go with is this:

Players get an introduction to Grand Vizir Rasheem (A pirate king in charge of the Corsairs of the Black Rose, a pirate crew operating out of Pirate Cove on Rishi) via Captain Rex.

Grand Vizir Rasheem offers them a job.

In exchange for equipment and gear, they need to break into an enemy stronghold and retrieve an item that this enemy shole from the Grand Vizir.

The item is not revealed, but is stated to be in a container small enough to be carried by one person. (briefcase sized)

The players get a rough overview of the layout of the enemy stronghold, and a quick rundown of entry points and possible locked doors.

The Grand Vizir states that the enemy crew is currently off-planet on a raid so the base is only operated by a skeleton crew and it should be quite possible to sneak in and out without getting detected.

The enemy stronghold is on an island, and the players will be dropped off by submarine operated by Rasheems men.

They will then break into the stronghold, retrieve the item and meet back for pickup once they signal that they're clear.

This is all a sham. The Grand Vizir wants to incite a war between two of his rivals, and have outfitted the players with equipment taken from another rival gang. The enemy stronghold is also not crewed by a skeleton crew, but actually fully manned and guarded.

The plan is that the Grand Vizirs men will drop off the players, the players will get caught sneaking in and hopefully put up a fight and die.

The enemy crew will then see that the equipment and ear is off the rival crew and initiate an attack against them.

The Black Rose will then move in and take over both rivals territory once they have depleted their forces in the war between eachother.

The rival gangs are called the Red Moon Raiders (the ones the players are impersonating) and the Dragonclaws.

To really sell the rouse, the grand vizirs men will be wearing Red Moon Raiders outfits when the players meet the grand vizir and when they drop off the players.

The players should manage to steal the item (there is a real item, but it's not something that the grand vizir knew about) and fight their way out of the base.

They should, however, figure out that something is wrong when they don't get a pickup.

Hopefully they'll return to the grand vizir to claim their prize, and the vizir is quite impressed with them and even offers them a bonus.
