FFG Live Star Wars™: Legion AMA Question Thread

By FFGMatt, in Star Wars: Legion

1- Exhaustable weapons (Ions, etc): They see small play in competitive p`lay. Will you consider another way to recharge those weapons instead of using a recover action? Can we get a glimpse of the "Cycle" Keyword?

2- An panicked Droid Trooper with 1 ion token unit performs 1 move towards the closest border or doesn't move at all? And a panicked Droid Trooper with 2 or more ion tokens?

3- When Obi Wan uses the Command card "Hello There" he gets the Nimble Keyword. If he spend a Dodge token during the using Guardian (by Soressu Mastery), he gets 1 Dodge token back?

4- What are your favourite Star Wars Legion units and/or what did you enjoy more while you were designing them?

5- In competitive play, strongly modifying the models could be considered cheating, like lowering Luke's Lightsaber or Wookiees unit leader ryyk blade to avoid poping out of cover. With new multi option minis (like with Bossk and Sabine),and now with the introduction of sprues, what are your thoughts on model customization?

6- Don't you think that the new Surge Token mechanic is not fair to units that have native surge to something? For instance, Rebel Veterans can't use those tokens, while Imperial Shoretroopers get strongly enhanced. What where you thoughts during the design of that mechanic?

7- Please, tell us something about Cassian Andor and K2-SO, or Iden Versio and Dio. Yes we know it, we have bothans.

8- Any glimpse on new subfactions, or how they might work, will be appreciated.

9- As game designers, if you could turn back time and change anything in Star Wars Legion, what it will be and how you would fix it?

10- Is Luke Eddy a Jedi Knight and Alex Davy a Dark Lord of the Sith?

Thank you :)

How do you plan on catching things up with the Clone Wars, because right now it's looking like a year or 2 before you catch up and that is if you stop producing GCW stuff

Notwithstanding the question on Tragedy of Darth Plagueis:

1. Are there any plans for releasing streamlined RRG? While I'm a big fan of FFG's learn to play/rrg model, I fell like Legion, with it's more and more spacious rules would benefit from replacing a part of glossary with "rules chapters" on main issues, like activation, movement, attack and damage (with cover), with glossary being limited to keywords.
2. Can we hope/reasonably expect (depending on how much you can say) a full-fledged Legion campaign product in the line of Armada's Rebellion in the Rim and Corellian Conflict?
3. Do plans exist, once factions get more releases, to implement rules for thematic armies, that, while limiting choices, offer other benefits?
4. In relation, how far do your release plans go? Do you have projects for 2021, 2022? :)
5. What unit, or a rule, are you particularly proud of?
6. Do you personally prefer melee units, short range units or long range units?
7. What is the dark/light side players ratio in the dev team?

  • Is there any chance for CIS to get a Vulture droid model, doing more or less the same job of Rebel's T-47? And with articulated wings allowing it to walk?
  • When will we get our hands on the Clone Wars Core Set (question relevant to Europe)? And what about the upcoming relesases?
  • Are there any plans for Legion folks to communicate more frequently with the community, using this official forum and other social media (like Facebook, Reddit, etc)?

    And last, but not least:
  • Should CIS players get 1 VP everytime they say "Roger Roger" when a droid unit is issued an order?

The t-47 still goes down quite easily and is highly receptible to natural crits. Will we see an upgrade or change that would grant it more resilience towards random crits? Like adding the Outmaneuver keyword. Or something in the core design that would reduce the crit randomness instead of actually going with crit and anti-vehicle -weapons. "After attack dice are rolled turn x crits into hits"

Will we see a card like Aggressive Tactics that would benefit Rebels more? Turn a white blank into surge for example

When will we see new battle plan cards and objectives?

Hello all, Mcgoats here,

I was curious what went into character selection. With all the characters there are how do you choose one over another. (Still waiting on Lando 😛 )

Question #1: what events will you appear at in 2020? (and alex)

question #2 - Tauntauns...........thoughts?

question #3 - how do i buy all those corps upgrade packs without robbing a bank first (Specifically rebels and CIS)

question #4 - we are all happy to buy lots of star wars stuff, but have you put any thought into a time when empire is "done with new corps units" ... not saying we need specific examples, but just a general look ahead big picture thoughts?

question #5 - Any thought put into generating more players for store events? This seems like legion's biggest weakness compared to games like MTG/xwing. Dice as prizes part of this? Keep doing dice please!

Question #6 - Speaking of dice, could we see more types of dice in our future? You guys seem more free with creating new tokens, rather than dice.

Question #7 - Why does FFG not get into the acrylic business? Official acrylic tokens would be awesome.

Question #8 - For tournaments, is FFG considering more strict terrain requirements? I think a lot of people would be happy to buy terrain, for the right price. Area terrain is rarely available right now. Most people rely on 3d printing structures/objectives.

have there been any units you guys really tried to fit into the game, iterated on a lot and sadly realized you weren't going to be able to effectively capture them? TIE fighters and X-wings, for instance, could easily feature on the table but in doing so would either have to be severely gimped in speed or damage or they'd dominate the table in a very un-fun way.

Also, is there any line on canon or non-canon when it comes to units? I'm a big fan of Kyle Katarn and Dark Troopers, but I know they might be tough to fit in, especially with a ton of similar options available (Empire right now has like, what, 3 different droid units they could easily have? and Kanan does a pretty nice Kyle Katarn impression if you let him)

The AAT tank has Hover: Ground, however as it is neither a walking or tracked vehicle, what cover does it provide mini's? Heavy or light?

We have two mortars in the game, and third coming along in a few months, yet none of them are functionally any different than a regular attack. Is there any plans to introduce indirect fire mechanics to the game, or are you avoiding them for some reason? If so, what is that reason(s)?

With all the point changes to come, are you guys considering making a legion army builder app similar to the X-Wing Second edition squad builder?

Top 5 moments of 2019 for X-wing?

Are there any plans to release "skirmish" rules for use with small collections or for new players? Or do you see the operations like "Take the Hill" as filling this role already?

Operations were very important in helping me learn the game and find a community to play with regularly. I’d also love to know if there will be more support for operations/skirmish/etc. moving forward.

Related: any plans for official 500 point format complete with tournaments?

With the release of clone wars have you thought about characters like yoda bringing in new force ability’s like force absorb for counter lightning plays?

1. Reiterating what others have asked because I think it's a super exciting possibility for Legion: can we expect to see a Legion campaign box in the same vein as The Corellian Conflict or Rebellion in the Rim?

2. For the cards with errata (Limited Visibility, Sniper Heavy Weapons cards, Laser Cannon unit card) are you considering providing a way for players who already own these expansions a way to purchase the updated versions of these cards without buying the entire expansion again?

3. Is there a possibility to see a Standard Bases pack release similar to the Premnium Bases packs for those of us who enjoy creating alternate models or objective tokens and want to use official bases, but don't want the Premnium base style?

What jobs did you guys have before FFG/Asmodee?

I'm game for a Armada-esque campaign box. I mean if you're looking for opinions. 😄

What is the size of the base used for the Clone Wars tanks?

Legion has an impressively diverse cast of characters represented in its miniatures.

Does FFG have any ideas or strategies for promoting and increasing the diversity of Legion’s player base?

With the rapid release of Legion units, what are ways you plan to continue having new product (for which we will give you all our money) in a couple years time? New factions, more obscure units, different gameplay options, etc.?

I was hoping someone else would ask but I guess I'll be 'that guy':

When is the clone wars release date?

Could Luke and Alex please give us their thoughts on "corner peeking"?

To expand:

Was that use of coherency to get heavy cover and prevent unit wipes an integral part of the initial design, or just a happy accident of rules intended for ease of play (just move the leader!) and virisimilitude (if you can't see them, of course they can't die!)?

Do they think the practice is a gamey "necessary evil", or more an elegant evolution of high-level play?

It's interesting to see that the new counterpart rule avoids this interaction - is that a "trial run" for a possible future generic rule change?

1. You published most of the known generic trooper units for the empire and the rebels. However, several iconic characters are still missing (Lando, Ben, Tarkin, Ghost Crew, Thrawn, several bounty hunters,...) Will you focus on commanders and operatives for the old factions?

2. The new Vader and Luke allow to individualize the command card deck more freely. Will you continue to encourage this individualization of the command card deck in the future?

3. At tournaments it is difficult to achieve clear rankings, because there is only victory and defeat, but no intermediate gradations. The possible victory points of the scenarios are too different as a second criterion. What’s your advice? Are you working on a solution of this problem?

Why did you put wookie warriors in the Rebellion, especially if you knew Clone Wars was on the horizon. Where are my Ewoks?

We need Yoda and Samuel L. Jackson ASAP!

(well... after CW is released for the common people)

Also, slave Leia, Jabba, and carbon frozen Han Solo. Can you give us those 3 together in a scenario based expansion?

1.If you were to add jango into the game for the CIS how would u differentiate him from Boba?

2. How would u go about designing cad Bane for the game, what kind of mechanics would u give him?
