FFG Live Star Wars™: Legion AMA Question Thread

By FFGMatt, in Star Wars: Legion

Any plan to improve the Climbing rule to allow upgrade like Grappling hook to be used? As of now nobody dare climbing since it use a precious action, also it will allows for cooler battles since people will make more use of vertical terrain...

1. How do the developers feel about painting requirements for tournament play?

2. Why is communication from ffg through official channels essentially non-existent outside of preview articles? The upcoming page is rarely accurate and I only hear about exact release dates through social media rumours.

3. Why are online retailers able to break release date on more than one occasion while distribution to my local shop is so poor that I often don't get my preorders until a few weeks after the official release?

1. Is there any update on the new playmats and the paint sets? They were announced a long time ago but have never come out.

2. How do you feel about doing certain units in a "Smaller Scale" - Large vehicles that might be too hard to fit on the battlefield?

3. Has there been any work on Subfactions? If so can you talk a little about how they might work? (Could I pull Boba Fett and Sabine from opposing factions into the same "Mandolorian" subfaction, etc?)

4. Once the Clone Wars factions get more "caught up" to the existing factions - do you have plans to slow production at all? If not, do you fear the game might eventually RUN OUT of recognizable unit types? How many Corps. units can you really make for the rebels, for example?

5. Where's Lando!?

6. Lightsaber Nunchucks - can we make this happen?

Everyone here is missing the real issue here. Pineapple on pizza, yea or nay?

LAAT?

Oh baby ya !! LAAT !! Sliding in on Qarks question, any development on LAAT, AT-TEs, or AT-ATs ?

1- Which releases can we now expect until Christmas and which ones have already been pushed to next year?

2- Also, has an alternative Han Solo sculpt ever been considered? One with just his iconic vest and not the coat?

3- Speaking of sculps, how come Leia and Solo look so cartoonish and the rest don't? Is the sculpt decision based on the developer in charge or do you have joint meetings with all staff to choose the best direction?

Are we ever going to see a Scum and Villainy faction?

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise?

Not from a Jedi

In Andrew Navaro's AMA, he mentions that future Legion releases that won't hit shelves for awhile will be "more thematic waves, related content". Can you expand on that? Will these be related by movie, by subfaction, or some other connection that you can speak to?

I know we have a ton of Legion stuff revealed from now to March, buuuuuut are there any more planned announcements for one or two more secret reveals? And if so, are they Q4 or next year Q1?

I know thjat may be greedy since we r getting so much, but this game is the plastic version of blue crystal meth and papa need his fix!!!

P.s. thanks for doing this! Really cool way to get feedback from the community.

P. p. s. My friend also wanted to get into the action, but he does not have an account yet so I graciously let him use mine. His two question are:

1) Will trooper upgrade expansions be used to increase diversity across other units in the game to help some see more table time

2) Have trooper upgrade expansions been considered for special forces to increase the variability of those units?

Are you willing to rewrite LoS to be more abstract (base based) instead of sculpt based (pretty annoying) without waiting till v2.0?

How do you things from the universe like Tusken raiders, etc fit into legion since they aren't big enough to be their own faction?

Are there any plans to release characters from outside the Clone Wars proper such as Qui Gon Jin or Darth Maul into Legion?

Long time player and very big fan of the game. Have you guys ever thought about or looked into making X-Wing into a video game? I know, I know, you guys more or less exclusively deal in making table top games but with the refined rule sets that have been developed for 2nd edition, it feels like this would work great as a video game. Not to mention the convenience for those of us with busy schedules that make it hard to go out and play or those who are in areas where not a lot of players exist. Great game, lost of fun, keeping be awesome.

Electronic Arts holds the exclusive license for all Star Wars video games for another few years yet.

I would like to see a rule like the following:

Ladder: a terrain feature which grants small based trooper units the following advantages. When climbing, the unit can climb to range two without making a clamber roll. When climbing to range three, it may make a clamber roll with one half the Normal number of dice. (Round down).
If the Unit has not completed a full movement prior to climbing, then it may make a speed one move (not move action) after completing the climb.

this can also apply to grappling hooks perhaps.

That's not exactly true. But I'm not sure what bits of that license are public so I'll leave the details to others to track down.

yes completely, Grappling hook and ladders should allow for the same rules

1. Getting two new factions with the Galactic Republic and the Separatists is generating a lot of new energy for the game. How many factions would like to see in the game? How many would be too many?

2. Legion is a fantastic casual tabletop game. As I have dived into more competitive play I have run into a few concerns. I have noticed that tournaments are difficult to run due to a couple of issues: length of games and uneven scoring. Have you considered making line of sight reciprocal to reduce the amount of checking and arguing? Have you looked at tournament Objective Cards or ways of balancing points across Objective Cards and introducing a form of MOV to better score games for tournaments?

How about about this - new keyword:

Assisted climbing: When climbing, the unit can climb up to range two without making a clamber roll. When climbing to range three, it may make a clamber roll with one half the Normal number of dice. (Round down).
If the Unit has not completed a full movement prior to climbing, then it may make a speed one move (not move action) after completing the climb.

Grappling hook errata: Grappling hook adds the keyword Assisted Climbing to the unit.

Ladder: If a trooper unit with small bases starts a movement action in base contact with a ladder, then that unit gains the assisted climbing keyword for the duration of its movement action.

This way, you can't "No time for sorrows" up a ladder, nor can AT-RTs benefit from ladders. It makes some of terrain which allows for multiple levels much more playable.

So, to bring this back to AMA - what is FFG's opinion of adjusting the climb/clamber rules with something like this suggestion to make multi-level terrain more playable?

Are their any plans to allow rules for adverse terrain, and by adverse I'm talking terrain that can cause damage to those crossing, from example razorwire , acid, lava, quicksand, bottomless pits, amongst other things.

Are you guys able to look into the distribution issues in places like Australia? Especially the OP kits, we frequently get the OP kits months after the end of the season/quarter they were intended for.

will we see a campaign box? i mean like the ones from armada rebellion in the rim, with these you can theme them around certain core sets.

i know this isn't a fully need question, but can we also get a rules update with a list at the end of which abilities actually stack together like spotter and all the other ones?

hi there!

1- Is the possibility for us players to make really thematic armies taken into consideration when you decide the next unit available? I simply complain because there is no possible way to make a somewhat thematic army with your abstract catalogue of units.

2- Will you think about doing more units and less characters? I think we got plenty of commanders and operative characters to choose from, but still with very poor options regarding combat units, and due to them being so small in numbers (4-6 minis per squad), and even filling the average squads with known characters (rogue one character aliens inside EVERY pathfinder squad?) everything contributes to that little skirmish feeling that is far away from the promised wargame experience. The Star Wars Legion tables look EMPTY of soldiers and with too much known characters. Will you change this in the future? will you allow bigger units (so that we could use 15 stromtroopers as a single unit) and also less heroes, and so, have a real feeling of BATTLE of Hoth or BATTLE for Endor?
