I remember seeing 8x TIE/LN swarms tearing it up.

I was wondering if a V-19 swarm could do the same?

Sure they aren't the best ship and they certainly aren't the killiest but something about putting 16 red dice and 40HP on the table seems good... if a little cheesy.

I mean, it's pretty common to go with a 4 Torrent + Sinker + [6th ship], to get those rerolls as a force multiplier. I think the 8 TIE/ln swarms have mostly fallen behind smaller ship counts and higher initiative stuff like Inferno Squadron lists, but 8 torrents seems tempting. 40 health is a lot to chew through. A bit less variance than the 8 TIEs version.

Biggest reason it probably hasn't seen much experimentation is the cost in real money. Most folks who buy into Republic probably get some mix of squadron packs and Aethersprite single expansions, so getting to 8 Torrents probably puts someone with a few more Jedi than they need.

I’m one of those crazy folks who has 8 torrents, and I’ve tried the list a couple times. It is janky and potentially fun, but I don’t see it having any remotely competitive legs.

Ideally you have a few (2-4) act as blockers with barrel roll to red evade, and the rest take focus to try and punch through defenses or stay alive.

However, there are a few main problems with the ship. Weak offense, weak defense, and that f’ing dial. My god, that is a terrible dial. Every single time I play a torrent, there is at least one time where the relatively simple move I want is either nonexistent or red. Red 3 banks? Come on! The t-rolls give it some interesting options, but for me it’s not enough.

As a consequence, there isn’t a lot of fun or finesse to their flying, just a brick moving ahead. Now that has a quality all it’s own, but against aces they will get dance around you and destroy you, and against other swarms, TIE swarms can chew through your defenses easier than you can chew through theirs, and Droids can either fit in a bulbasaur with support, or energy shell charges and struts, or higher initiative, all of which makes it an uphill battle.

They can be swarmed, but it’s much better to run a bunch with sinker rather than a full swarm of torrents.

I agree with the the others here, but I've seen a guy bring this to a HT and just tear up a falcon. There was nowhere for it to go since everything was blocked with torrents.
