The title says it all really, i'm looking for a brand or type of lacquer spray suitable for miniatures. Mainly it would be used to stop weathering powders from rubbing off. So any suggestions for a good type that wont affect the paint job (making it gloss or dulling it down). Thanks!

I use Testor’s Dullcote, which is a matte varnish and then I spot gloss reflective surfaces with a brush-on gloss varnish (Citadel’s ‘ardcoat). You mentioned not changing your existing paint finish but any varnish will do that - you might be able find a satin finish spray but I don’t have any brand to recommend for that.

I would recommend finish floor polish. Before you laugh, I’ve used it for years(large models space ships, tanks, plane etc. Only just got back into miniatures) as a in experience varnish. It holds weathing powers well. But you will need to use a Matt or satin varnish afterwards.

I like the Testors rattle cans as well. But Dull Coat alone is not the best strategy. I recommend doing a couple coats of Gloss Coat first, keep them thin. That will give you a hard protective coat. Then do a thin coat of Dull to get back to matte, and brush varnish anything you need to reclaim.

I've done this for years and it holds up to all the horrific clumsy flgs abuse out there.

I recently tried out a new spray varnish on some non-Legion minis. I’d painted them with a very high gloss finish about 20 years ago and was fed up with the shine. It’s Rustoleum crystal clear matte (I think, I’m away from home and googling spray varnishes and trying to remember what the can looks like). It killed the high gloss very effectively and I didn’t have any issues with frosting, like I have with other spray varnishes.
