ENTIRE collection or JUST your squad?

By K-2SO, in X-Wing

Entire collection is way too big to bring, but I generally pack a couple of squads. While I have a couple of regulars (Seventh Sister is probably in there somewhere), I like to mix it up with squads and factions, usually bringing at least something new to every game night.

I have most of the Feldherr boxes, and I typically bring between one and three trays, in the Mini, Mini Plus and/or Backpack, along with accessories and occasionally a mat, and my laptop if I'm doing a tournament.

I’ll likely bring more when I have more, I suppose. I’m just trying to be super conservative right now, budget wise, too.

Does everyone break down their ships from bases after playing? I suppose carrying them around assembled can lead to peg breakage, huh?

I have 2x KR Multicase boxes in a 2-box bag.

It holds my whole collection, with space for more, with pockets for card-folders and tokens in a toolbox. Dice and odd bits in side pockets.

The type of bag I have is a bit bulky, but goes under the table when playing, and I can find everything pretty quickly.

All my cards, bases, tokens, templates and 65 or so small ships fit in one tool box that I have. On the rare ocasions that I fly a large base, then I dig out the few things I need from their plano boxes and squeeze them in.

Depends on how you transport them.

Felderr has some foam for “ships on bases” that works pretty well for the TIEs and some of the rebel craft. It doesn’t work for longer ones like Ywings though.

Typically though I break everything down. Way easier to transport and store a wider range of the ships in my opinion.

To friends house i used to take everything, but i took only what i need to tournements and now i do that when iff to. Friends too, too.much to carry and sort out when really i want to turn up and get playing ASAP

My collection is too big and sprawling to take everywhere, not even including my huge ships. As such I have narrowed my collection down to a list of each faction I am having fun with right now and I take each of those along with tokens, dials, cards, etc in a separate, smaller tackle box.

Only play at friends if I'm not hosting and I'm slowly trying to wean myself off the 'take absolutely everything' mindset. Though part of that has been so I can lend ships to the people in the group who haven't actually got round to buying models but play regularly in the group.

For a tourney, combat load the night before. I've got a combo token/damage deck holder ( https://www.etsy.com/listing/675248264/x-wing-20-token-holder-with-lid-and) and the High Bridge template tray/stuff holder, so those together plus a small bag for ships + dice is all I need to bring in. Set the ships up on the bases and put everything in the stuff holder, and table moving is really easy. My little snack bag goes around my shoulder and off I go.

All the rest of the stuff can come, it just stays in the car.

I only carry a Plano case I've modified - it'll hold between 3 and 6 squads, depending on ships and kit-out. It also has everything else I'll need for a game. It's much easier than carting around everything.

Depends on the ship. Depends on what you've chosen as your transport and storage.

I have these foam blocks in various depths : https://www.miniaturemarket.com/gps1022.html

The small based ships for the most part will fit in the 2" blocks assembled. Easy to set up. Easy to put away. You have to make some compromises for getting the most out of a block dependent on your organizational goals. I'm sure I could have gone cheaper but if you don't get what you want you didn't get a deal. I'm not also stuck with just waves of ships together or just one of a ship per block. I have Rebel blocks and Republic blocks and so on.

Four medium base ARCs assembled and 12 maneuver dial upgraded dials will fit in a 3" Block. So far so good on traveling safely.

Large based ships like Falcons I break down. This puts them in a thinner block. 1.5" but only two ships and bases.

I can carry a reasonable variety of lists in the bag: https://www.miniaturemarket.com/gps1004.html

No need to take everything since you can only play so much stuff in a session anyway. Forces me to be ready to go when I get to the venue. I don't have to spend any gaming time figuring a list and finding the cards and finding the ship tokens and finding the base pegs and finding the dials. I think it is very rude to be disorganized.

Arcs go in 3" blocks.

I usually pre build 2-3 squads that I know I want to try, and take them. Everything else stays at home.

Like you, I prefer to travel light. X-Wing's great for that. Everything I need for a multi-day tournament fits in the core set box, which fits in my backpack.

I have been caught out on occasion forgetting something, but it's never been a big issue.

I generally bring more than what I need in the boot of my car, but into the store it's often the bare minimum for that night's list: Altoid tins with tokens, a pencil box with the ship bases, pegs, ships and dials in addition to the dice, damage deck & maneuver templates.

For the cards, I'll usually print out the squad from the Infinite Arenas site. Just copy and paste the XWS text from YASB to Infinite Arenas and print the list full size and in color (at work). The nice thing is, I can keep my lists organized in a binder and don't have to fuss with loose cards any more, except for tournaments,

Is anybody like me, constantly on the lookout for small, sturdy boxes and containers, always with the thought, "How can I use that for X-Wing components?"

YES.

I have old iphone boxes that are too nice to let go. I picked up some plastic trays from the bath section at target for a dollar because "I just know I can use this in X-wing"

I'm also constantly hunting for frames, boxes or lids that I can use or modify for dice trays despite the fact that I don't need one any more.

It's a sickness.

I'm not sick. I would never keep old iPhone boxes.

I do keep my old Android boxes, though, for exactly the same reason.

I did this one better. I actually glue-sticked the hardcopy, arranged laterally, to pieces of cardstock, then used strong clear tape to join the pieces (with joints, making them foldable) and protect them.

It's a decent amount of work, so I have only done it for lists I know will see a lot of play, but it's really nice to use.

I bring enough for multiple squads and a spare damage deck. Its always good to have when someone sees you playing and is interested in playing a game or two.

No cards tho. I only pull out the cards for tournaments. Just use apps.

I wonder - Why all you are speaking about "night"? Do your events use to be by night or it is just wording?

It's always night time in space.

-------------------------------

In my experience, most game stores have their X-wing games in the evenings after most folks get off work.

Daytime games typically happen on weekends & tournaments.

Weekly nights get everything. All 5 Plano boxes it’s a pain but it’s easier

Tournaments get just the one squad.

I'm currently trying to rekindle interest in my area, since it died down a lot. So I bring pretty much everything I have that's 2.0 ready, which honestly is just my "okay" sized collection of Rebels and Imperials. I fit the majority of my ships in a single Feldherr Mini Plus that I did custom with pick and pluck. For ship tokens, dials, and bases I use a large Plano case, and for all the other tokens I use a small Plano case. Then I've got my card binder. Add to that the Core Set and my mat, and you've got everything.

I try to bring enough to field at least 2 completely different lists of both Rebel and Imperial, with a few spare dials for lapsed 1.0 players that might bring some ships, and I'm leaving the Core Set alone so that if someone wants to learn I can just break out the quick play rules and walk them through a simple game. So far everything fits in my backpack except for the mat and the Feldherr case.

Unless you can see the local star(s). It's daytime then :)

As with others, my collection is too big to be easily transported, so for club nights, I tend to pack between 2-4 squads into a single Feldherr case along with all my other game components. Like @Quack Shot I have my 'meta' list that I am practicing, plus something decent, but more wholesome/less complex that I can either use against a new player, or lend to them for a demo game. I used to keep quad T-70 in my bag for this purpose, but it's a more varied set now. For local tournaments, I take a single squad with me, with only the required components, plus a few spares. For big weekend tourneys where I travel, I might bring 2-3 lists, and often pack my card binders in case I, or a squad mate, want to make a last minute list change.
