ENTIRE collection or JUST your squad?

By K-2SO, in X-Wing

Just curious how everyone rolls into their local shop to play? Personally, I don’t like carrying ANYthing, ANYwhere! Just my wallet, cell and keys in my pocket annoy me. When I played MTG, I brought my deck, period. No life counters, dice, mats, tokens, trade binders, other decks, nothing! Of course that always made me the PITA that had to borrow a die or rip up little pieces of paper to use as tokens, but...

For X-Wing I plan to be just as spartan. MY squad, cards, tokens, and tools all in a metal ROTJ lunchbox or more than likely jammed into a Target bag 😂

Let me just say, hats off to those guys that DO bring in everything, as they’re always the most generous and willing to lend out their collections for others to play and learn the game.

Anyway, what’s everyone else’s preference?

I rarely go without all my cards, just because they're not separated by faction.

I'll only bring the baseplates and dials for the faction I plan to play though, although currently I have CIS and Republic in the same box so I've been playing them exclusively since they came out, purely for convenience.

I bring in my squad and tokens, templates etc that I need.

Sometimes I bring a spare squad if it’s just open play and I want to try more than one thing.

To a tournament, I just carry my squadron, in my OG X-Wing box with foam insert. I carry everything I need, including cards for more serious tournaments. I've started carrying extra alt-arts to hand out, and super-glue. It's pretty amazing how consistently somebody at a big tournament needs super-glue.

For casual play, sometimes I use that box (and sometimes add another squadron), but recently I've been using a larger gaming box, and carrying six squadrons in it. (One from each faction I have. I don't own or play CIS.) I don't carry cards for casual play ... just YASB lists, with extra copies.

The only downside for the latter is that the box just barely fails to fit in my motorcycle's saddlebags, so I have to carry a backpack. But so far it's been worth the inconvenience to be able to regularly play varied lists.

My collection is so large that I can't bring EVERYTHING with me but I still bring in a lot still.

Finally got a container that can let me bring just a squad so gonna try that. But having the extra stuff is nice for new people and in case any friends need something.

I've got a decent sized box I'll bring like 3-4 squads around in, and leave my whole collection at home.

I bring my squad and the cards/bases for them in a Warhammer Diskwars box (running joke with my friends). I bring a plano container with all my tokens and movement templates.

I honestly don't remember the last time I brought everything.

I actually bring everything with me whenever I go play, casually or competitively. For tournaments I tend to leave extraneous stuff in my car, but I often end up grabbing something else out of there for someone to borrow or whatnot.

Its a bit cumbersome, sure, but I like how I’ve got things organized and I like being able to decide what I’ll play as I go on casual nights.

I usually bring two lists just in case someone shows up wanting to learn.

Yup. I can’t fathom bringing everything along. For me, that’s 4 big feldherr bags full of ships, plus the dials and cardboard in a carry case, plus the card binders

I used to bring everything when I started going to stores for X-Wing. Now I just bring the squad I'm playing that night and any other game related materials required.

Damage cards, templates, dices and the ton of tokens are always in the box, as much as obstacles and bombs. Ships, dials, cards and bases use to be more selective.

Honestly, most of my games are at a house with people I know well and have all their stuff. If we have someone new that we invited over I’ll throw in an extra list and take the larger Plano, but usually it’s a small token/ships pack and my template tray.

Games Product Plus bag with small divided Plano boxes for setup tokens (shields, charges, force, ship ID numbers and their locks,) and one for the in game tokens (focus, evade, calculate, and so on,) Decipher era CCG official deck box for my release promo damage deck and the lists I've pulled, then I just put the foam in with the appropriate ships and dials. I set up the ship tokens and such before hand. Thinnest foam available for my obstacles and maneuver templates and range rulers and any bomb tokens and other placed items in my lists. I've got most of my pluck foam setup to carry dials and the additional ship tokens. And for most of the small-based ships to travel assembled on their pegs. So if I've the foam with the Falcons in it I have everything for any list with a Falcon in it if I messed up on pulling the list or forgotten something.

I do not show up expecting anyone else to supply anything I might need to play.

For weekly game night at the local store, I have most of the collection between a Feldherr bag and Plano tacklebox. I usually have a list planned out for the night, but have been known to change things up based on what is going on at the store that night. For tournaments, I just bring the Feldherr bag for safely carrying the ships and which can also hold a single Plano organizer which has dice, tokens, etc.

I bring a a small lunch box/tackle box that I can put about 4 squads in with all of its components.

1 Squad is my usual Han/Luke for if I need to practice it more or if someone brought a meta list and I want to see how it does

1 Squad is something I either stumbled upon on YouTube, online, or made that seemed interesting, fun to fly, and potentially good

1 Squad is something fun to fly that’s simple and not competitive for if I go against a new player or against a more casual player

1 Squad is usually something of whatever faction I haven’t used yet with the other lists that has some meta elements that I expect to play against so I can try them out and see how they work.

This way I can switch lists depending on what level of competition my opponent wants and I’ll have some variety so I don’t get burnt out. Of course, my current problem is not being able to attend game nights.

I’ve got a Plano that I keep the two factions I’m playing the most at any given time (presently Republic and Resistance), and 2 binders. One is my game day binder: all cards for the two factions in my case and all upgrades that fit on those ships (for example, no relays in that binder right now). 2 of each unique, 4-8 of every generic or otherwise non-limited card so I can provide extras to other players.

Everything else (Scum, Rebels, Separatists and a smattering of Empire & First Order) goes in a couple of my stacking toolboxes that primarily houses my Armada ships, and all the other cards go in my secondary three rings binder.

I use battlefoam to store my ships so I'll load the necessary trays for what I'm flying in my pack 216 and bring that.

I keep all of my play accessories (dice, templates, tokens, etc.) in a photo storage case like this along with typically 4-5 lists. The gearboxes and cards for each list will fit in 1-2 of the storage areas.

I find those two items give me a few options to play with and are pretty easy to bring with me to and from the game store.

I will normally have a list or 5 I want to try, so will have what cards I need out. My group is pretty casual, but I find if I have the cards there it makes me refer to them more. I also have a truncated collection of tokens that I bring. Then I find I have left them out and need to borrow some.

Unless you are playing big ships or swarms, the space x wing takes up is minuscule.

For Tournaments, I use just my squad and carry everything in my dice tray.
For casual get-togethers, I bring everything (or at least just enough copies of everything) so I can experiment on the fly or sometimes even trade.

As others have said, for a tournament, especially if traveling, I bring exactly what I need (though if it's local, I've probably brought everything and left what I'm not using in the car, if anyone needs something). For local game nights, everything. If I'm running the local tournament, everything in case someone needs to borrow.

I usually bring two squads, and then a couple extra ships I can swap out of same faction for a total of 4-5 different variations to try. 5 republic ships can become 5 different lists.

I carry this case and it holds around 8 small ships and a large ship or two. All my stuff just fits in a backpack.

I have a Really Useful box that I use to hold a single squad (or two small-base squads) when I'm going to play a league game/tournament, it holds all my small/medium ships I'll need, tokens, cards, and everything else aside from my templates which are in a small case. I don't take my entire collection unless its a game night for my FLGS, its in a Plano box and I don't like lugging it around for no real reason.

With the extra damage deck, prize dice and templates, rules I have two Feldherr boxes filled currently. One holds stuff for 2 FO squads and (weirdly - the smaller one) holds stuff for ~4 separatist squads.
I usually take whichever I feel like playing that day.

In casual game I only go with my small feldherr carring case with one or two lists with the everything needed (tokens, cards, dial...)
Tournaments, I only carry the same feldherr case, but with only one list and an extra set of base and pegs.
