Republic Epic, or: It's ok that there's no Republic CR-90 titles!

Frankly, because Bail wasn't exactly military. Padme's a different case altogether.

If we are being technical, the Tantive IV seen at the end of RotS and the one seen in Rogue One/A New Hope are different vessels....or more accurately, the ship in Rogue One/A New Hope has received significant structural updates.

The ship at the end of the Clone Wars was a CR70 class corvette, which was then upgraded (via the Vanguard c20 refit suite) into a CR90; it notably increased the length of the ship.

This is splitting hairs, mind you. I'd have no objections to having the title apply to both Republic and Rebel CR90s, but that's the 'canon' explaination.

I guess it is, in fact, a different ship: the Tantive III. As per the Raymus article.

No, but I have seen how FFG does things, even with 2nd Ed. I'm expecting the titles to be not worth it much.

Yeah, I see what they do. I'm not sure they will be worth it. I rarely used the titles for the ships. I'm thinking it will be pretty easy to just use generics for a bit. I mean, do the titles really add THAT much to the game that you won't get it for the Republic?

I don't think anyone is claiming that the titles will be necessary, just usable. And what is it about 2E that makes you think the titles won't be worth their price (which we don't even know yet)?

Are you questioning my loyalty to Epic!!?? 😜

But seriously, I think @Captain Lackwit and @JJ48 have the rights of it.

The CR-90 isn't really meant to be the Republic huge; it's just a placeholder. It's possible they won't support it much as a Republic ship once they get a Consular Corvette out.

Since I highly doubt they will put cards into the Consular that directly add to the CR-90 (although Bail and Raymus as Republic crew would work to add flavor to the ship), hopefully we could see CR-90 Republic Titles in a card pack, mission pack, or the like.

And I will fly the fudge out of my Republic CR-90 (with all generic commanders) til I get a better option, especially since it was a ship I "didn't have access to" as an Imperial player in 1.0. It's a completely brand new toy to me!

Would any of the Rebel only cards for the CR-90 be broken in the Republic?

Or could fans make alt-art versions of those cards for the Republic? For example, having Jan Dodonna's ability but changing the name and image to Bail Organa. Most of the time people fly Huge Ships will be for casual or small competitive games which you can always make a few house rules for if everyone agrees to them.

Who, me?

Uh, I doubt it. If anything, I would think the Epic crowd is going to be the most interested in a broad swath of ways to play the game, and thus a lot of factions too.

Yeah, I still kinda don't get it, though.

The Tantive IV is Bail Organa's ship!! Why didn't they:

Make that title available for both factions

Include Bail as a commander, or, failing that

Make Raymus available for both factions (cuz Bail is off in the Senate and Raymus is in charge).

Tantive III was actually the ship in Episode 3 that Bail was on, still could have included him though

When did they retcon that?

A while back. Dunno' when, but it happened.

I don't think it was ever retconned, it was just said in the novelization and went from there, everyone just assumed it was the Tantive IV.

1st Ed or 2nd Ed have most titles as more expensive than they are worth in my opinion. Just saying.

Ha! No, but there are people who say they have lost interest due to no Republican titles. I say they shouldn't.

Agreed. But it's disappointing, because "each ship will now be for 2 factions" implies they will be fleshed out for each faction, not just "oh, just make a generic one for Republic."

This.

Back when the Raider was YEARS in the making (please let the Consular ship arrive in 2020!!), I was using the Corvette for the Imperials (which is why I have a black repaint).

I built a Rebel CR-90 with only generics, subtracted those points from my Imperial list, and stapled the 2 lists together.

Again, this is the disappointing part. My DIY solution is the official solution. . .

It just seemed odd to see you see you "find" cards that have never existed in 2E to be too expensive, without having any idea of the cost. It would be like me saying I find any ship that's not a PS9 super-ace or a fat turret to be utterly useless in 2E, based on my 1E experience. I'm not saying everyone has to like the titles or use them, but claiming anything about how fairly priced they are at this stage seems a bit premature.

I seem to recall quite a bit of material when the film released insisting that it was the exact same ship; though by 2014, it wasn't. I guess they actually listened to all the fans who saw it in the movie and said, "That is 100% not the same ship."

Part of the reason this made me lose interest is that, for example, the Tantive IV title makes perfect sense for the Republic from a lore perspective. It’s in the Clone Wars cartoon!

Literally, the Tantive IV flew in service of the Republic! That’s why this feels like a lazy effort, and why I’m not particularly inclined to open up my wallet.

I don't play Republic, but I would buy the Consular cruiser. Easy decision.

It's not exactly what I was hoping for, but it's probably as close to the Night Caller / Ession Strike as we're likely to get.

I for one, will gladly run this.

What you're actually gonna' get for Republic Epic down the line.

Consider the following. An Epic ship with force users on it. Not only that, a very good way to get Qui-Gon into the game (and a young Obi-Wan?) but also other Jedi seen aboard, such as Aayla Secura.

It's different from a CR-90, and has a peace and wartime variant, the Consular and the Charger c70. Don't worry, Republic lads.

Your time will come, and it will be PRETTY COOL.

Some of us already have one. :) Can confirm, it's PRETTY COOL.

I am very excited for the potential of this.

I'm wondering what they'll do for CIS, though. The C-ROC seems to be one of the few ships that are within the epic scale range in their known navy. The Gozanti could also be a dual-faction pack including CIS.

Maybe the Diamond-class or Harcell-class? Though those are a good bit bigger than a Raider and don't really fit the game well, either.

Maybe they'll pull out another Raider-class and create an entirely new ship or maybe they'll do something really weird for CIS, like a pack of three automated vulture droid deployment stations as one of their epic "ships."

Honestly, I think they'll go with the Pelta-class cruiser for Republic, and include Phoenix Squadron cards. The other one posted looks too much like the CR90.

And @heychadwick, the titles will totally be worth it. "Let's try to keep a little optimism," eh? Imagine that they won't be prohibitively expensive: which title are you just excited to try out?

That she is, but I hope when the official release is made, it will be the refit version as shown from the OP.

Pelta-class is almost double the size of the CR90 (282m vs. 150m).

Sure, it would look cool in a "super huge" class, alongside the Nebulon-B frigate (300m, Rebels) and the Arquitens-class light cruiser (325m, Empire).

They probably won't make new models for the TFA X-Wings, probably just a title c-

Ah, right.
