I’ve run a half dozen lists using all different pilots of the Y’s with VTG and ARCs and they have all been quite good. But what’s the best version of this type of Republic Beef?
Give me your best 2 ARC/2 Warthog List
Can't imagine running two btl-bs
Once you get broadsides slotted, I don't see much appeal to any other Y pilot. Matchstick would be amazing, but his cost is ******* nutty. Wolfe should take precedence over him every time
Kinda pulled this out my butt:
(36) "Broadside" [BTL-B Y-wing]
(3) Clone Commander Cody
(5) Ion Cannon Turret
Points: 44
(33) Red Squadron Bomber [BTL-B Y-wing]
(12) Ahsoka Tano
(5) Ion Cannon Turret
Points: 50
(50) "Wolffe" [ARC-170 Starfighter]
(8) C-3PO
Points: 58
(48) "Jag" [ARC-170 Starfighter]
Points: 48
Total points: 200
So yeah, again I'd def trade the not-broadsides for a third arc, but what can you do?
Theory here is the Y isn't going to put in more work than an Arc, so we gotta focus on support. Due to turret coverage, lower cost, and turret letting you sidewind rather than joust, the Y is (theoretically) a great platform for support gunners
Note you could also use 7th fleet, but I'm pretty sure Ys will be shooting more often than not (dat coverage!). Plus, if you don't use Ashoka you can still lock for full mods!
C3po is something I've REALLY wanted to test, as it seems he'd do really well at keeping an Arc from getting as wrecked on approach against a swarm
So yeah, that's my take at 2/2. Rather be 3 arcs, but hey.
Alternative: the 50 point red bomber could be Wolfe
The 58 point Wolfe could be vtg ion r4 matchstick (broadsides and Wolfe don't need their lock as much; Jag can reallocate), or vtg ion r4 c3po R2D2

@TasteTheRainbowI wanted to, I really did, I super understand the concept fundamentally. HOWEVER.

Please consider. Put Matchstick and Broadside on opposite sides of the board (or tightly form everybody up for turn 1 and fan out for turn 2), have absolutely everybody lock onto Matchstick, get them on the outermost, fly them as pointmen. They have R2s and the hull, they'll be okay.
Jam Sinker and the boys up the middle. Have them hammer the brains out of whoever gets ioned, and the V-19s exist largely for target saturation / attack opportunity.
I couldn't justify a second ARC in this build, I just couldn't. Everything is way too naked 2/2, but 2/1/2, you get another set of health and guns. You really can't argue that one.
I think I'd go with:
- Wolffe
- 104th Pilot
- Broadside (Ion Cannon Turret)
- Matchstick (Ion Cannon Turret, Veteran Turret Gunner)
There's 11 spare points to play with. Probably Clone Commander Cody somewhere, maybe some R4 Astromechs, some Crack Shots or such. Not sure if Matschstick is worthwhile, but it seems easy to roll in with full rerolls.
Still trying to figure out what to do with the Y-wings. Seems to me you might want to bomb with bombers.

Broadside with 7th Fleet has been a very pleasant surprise as to making Matchstick primary fire super scary with rerolls, focus and crack shot. Those two as a team are pretty lethal and both equipped with Ion Cannon Turret give solid control with Ion RR update. Wolffe slots in as another great beef piece to let him lock Matchstick and he still gets his reroll. Jag seems to fit as a solid final piece to gain 2 locks via R3 to make sure Matchstick still can get some locks and Jag can use them. I personally don't use Jag in my recent Republic list variation, but the baseline of Matchstick, Broadside and Wolffe is worth a look.

Are you utilizing R3 on Jag purely to be allowed to hold 2 locks? As his ability is not a lock action I didn't believe it triggered R3.

Yeah just for maintaining the lock on Matchstick while still get use of his ability to lock an actually opposing ship and not lose the lock on Matchstick.

Nice. Yeah I thought about using that as well. As you can guess a target, and chuck one on Matchstick, and use Jag's ability to cover all bases an readjust the original lock you want to use mid engagement.
Edited by BVRCHI just had an idea that I'm certain is bad.

Put threepio on Jag, because otherwise your opponents will just shoot jag first and kill him.
If you don't have jag, threepio is still great on Wolffe or another ARC
let jag die
Wolffe is better

Tried it out at my local casual flight evening. Got mixed experience with snap shot, where against FO aces it pushed 6-7 damage through but against Imperial aces it failed to score a single point...
