Best time to Identify the Stones in Path to Carcosa?

By Krysmopompas, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Hey there, just finished first scenario of Return to Path playing Carolyn in a 4-player, and got a nice chunk of VP. I've only played normal Path once, and just bought the Stones (1)...is it good to identify these in The Last King? I'd like to end up with a good number of secrets on the Healing Stones, but should I wait for a scenario that might give me a better chance to get more secrets on there?

I don't want to wait around to get them active, but I'm expecting I can max out at 7 secrets in this scenario. I don't want to break the game, but if there's a better chance at 9 (for example) in scenario 3 maybe I should wait. Thanks for the opinions.

Just quickly went over locations in Carcosa, checking shroud.

The Courtyard in Last King has shroud 5, so you could get to 8 secrets.

Good locations in upcoming scenarios:

Echoes of the Past: Reading Room (5), Meeting Room (4), Peabody's Office (4), Hidden Library (4)

Unspeakable Oath: Basement Hall (4), Patient Confinement (5),

A Phantom of Truth: Opéra Garnier (5 or 6), Canal Saint-Martin (4),

So yeah, probably not going to get anything better than the Courtyard.

If i recall correctly, Opéra Garnier (shroud 6) is especially great for investigating with the ancient stone since the location doubles your base investigation value

Of course, by that point you'll only be able to use the Stone in three scenarios.

I think you have to balance how important a really high number of charges is, vs. how useful the upgraded card is going to be for your build/group going forwards.

If you've got the actions spare, handling the translation side of any of these cards as early as possible means that the upgrade has greater value over the course of the campaign.

Agreed. I would really try to hit a 4 for them. Outside of that, getting it early/getting the otherwise dead cards out if your deck quicker is probably a better use than waiting for more charges as you will get more uses out of it over the campaign the earlier it gets in your deck.
