Replicant Troopers : 40K Veteran, Legion Noob

By FastWalker, in Army Building

Been a casual 40K player since 2nd edition. Got tired of 40K 8e quick and especially Games Workshop prices and annoyances.

Legion looks like a WAY better system than 40K. So my buddy and i are splitting two CW core sets. I'm getting the Replicant/Clone Troopers with an additional Phase 1 expansion -- Obi, 5x trooper units, and 2x BARCs.

Is this Army Build good for what i have? Your advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Obi 3xDC15 2xZ6 2xBARC

Obi-Wan Kenobi (Force Reflexes, Hope, Esteemed Leader, Endurance)
Phase I Clone Troopers (DC-15 Phase I Trooper)
Phase I Clone Troopers (Z-6 Phase I Trooper)
Phase I Clone Troopers (DC-15 Phase I Trooper)
Phase I Clone Troopers (DC-15 Phase I Trooper)
Phase I Clone Troopers (Z-6 Phase I Trooper)
BARC Speeder (BARC Twin Laser Gunner, Linked Targeting Array)
BARC Speeder (BARC Twin Laser Gunner, Linked Targeting Array)

Commands:
Hello There! (1), Ambush (1), Knowledge and Defense (2), Push (2), General Kenobi (3), Assault (3), Standing Orders (4)

Deployments: Advanced Positions
Objectives: Key Positions
Conditions: Clear Conditions

Couple of things, though the list looks pretty good overall. I'm not sure I'd run Esteemed Leader on Obi. You really don't want clones taking hits for him most of the time. In fact, he's geared around being able to take hits for clones as often as not, though I tend to think that's super situational. The other thing is the Linked Targeting Array you have on there doesn't come in the Clone Wars core set, so you'll have to pick up either the card pack or one of the Droideka/BARC expansions for that. Just wanted to make sure you're away of that.

Lastly, and the most minor of things, but you'll need to include 4 options for the Deployments/Objective/Condition cards in a legal army, not just one of each. Sorry if you already knew that and just didn't fill in all the slots, but it stood out and thought it was worth mentioning.

Other than that, its not a bad list by any stretch. Good starting point, and don't be afraid to tweak it where ever possible if you run into problems.

@Alpha17

Hmm, so what would you recommend in place of Esteemed Leader? Aggressive Tactics or Commanding Presence?

Yeah, I'm not worried about lack of cards. If need be, I'll borrow. For now, I'll mostly be playing casual.

Doh! I didn't know about 4 Deployment/Objective/Condition cards. I'll have to fix that. I'm new to Legion.

I'm very excited for Captain Rex and Saber tank. Since I'll be playing mostly casual, I'll be proxying a 40K Tau Hammerhead tank (https://i.pinimg.com/originals/fc/fc/f5/fcfcf59fda95e04bbbfb57fdf7b428c7.gif) in place of a Saber tank.

Thanks for you help! Much appreciated.

Aim true and May the Force be with You.

I'm fond of Aggressive Tactics with Clones; doesn't always work, but occasionally comes in handy. Commanding presence is also a decent option, though it depends on your play style.

Good luck with your list! I'm excited about Rex and the Saber as well, just gotta hold out until they're released!

I would switch out endurance for tenacity and esteemed leader for aggressive tactics

I will play with yours and @Alpha17 recommendations. We'll see which one works well with my playstyle. Thanks for your input.

While it will depend on play style, Endurance is really helpful on Obi. With so few units to shoot at, Republic lists have a tendency to get bogged down with suppression. Having Obi fall short due to be suppressed is not what you want. Tenacity is a good option, (and where I started with my Obi builds) but you gotta be able to get that lightsaber into the fight first.

@Alpha17, Yes, indeed. The suppression mechanic has me worried for my Replicants. Finding ways to mitigate or buff against suppression is important. Tho it shouldn't be the only mechanic to worry about.

My only worry is lack of unit options... for now. Because i wish snipers and mortars were available for the prequel factions. But that's how it is. In time, they'll be available. In time.

Yeah, in time the GAR will be a diverse army with lots of options. Won't be this year. Hopefully by the end of next year that'll be the case, but who knows?
