Lassos and nets - are there any formal rules for them?

By mwknowles, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have a PC who is a tank and very hard to take down - soak 9; 21 wounds; high resistance. So im thinking of alternative methods to challenge him. Therefore im thinking non-lethal capture methods (other than stun guns!)

Anyone use rules for nets and or lassos?

Cheers!

No specific rules as far as I know - it is mainly covered through weapon qualities and interpretation of Advantages/Threats.

There is a net/bola weapon that has the Knockdown and Ensnare 3 qualities - if you activate both the target is flat on their back and cannot take any maneuvers for 3 rounds (they can still take actions however).

If you get a Triumph when the net/bola, the target is actually so entangled that the only action they can take each turn is a Formidable (five purple) Athletics check until they free themselves.

There's also an electronet launcher which has Ensnare 5.

Depending on who is fighting them you might be able to justify giving them a souped-up custom version of the above. For example, a bounty hunter who has a reputation for always bringing in their quarries alive might have a harpoon-style weapon that is basically the electronet launcher with a few ranks of Pierce to help get past that soak.

That's really Good. What good is it in? Also, does soak apply? Being an entangling weapon??

The Net is in the Edge CRB. Go under the item description. I had some street thug minions do a number on an experienced party with some Bolas. It is a simple weapon you can explain that street types may have. The same with nets. Soak isn't going to help vs Ensnare.

Glop Grenades are a very fun surprise to pull on your PCs.

You could use weapons with the concussive quality. A staff with modified weights or concussion rifles can be really nasty. Just keep in mind to put up a proper challenge, but don't play too hard. A friend of mine had a tank, too and he got shot at by multiple enemies using different weapons. Resulted in him being ensnared AND suffering from concussive the whole encounter, so not being able to do anything because he was robbed of his actions and maneuvers.

There is also a whip in a book and it has teach and is a melee weapon

The Longeing Whip in SoT: Melee; Dam +1; Crit 5; Range [Short]; 3 Encumbrance; 1 HP; 600/4; Ensnare 2, Stun Damage.

Look at the "ensare" weapon quality.
