Using Tie Advanced X1 generics

By LUZ_TAK, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Was thinking about crafting a list with Tie Advanced X1 generics, and came up with this:

TIE Advanced x1 - Storm Squadron Ace - 43
Storm Squadron Ace - (40)
Marksmanship (1)
Fire-Control System (2)

Lambda -class T-4a Shuttle - •Colonel Jendon - 65
•Colonel Jendon - Darth Vader’s Shuttle Pilot (46)
Ion Cannon (5)
•Director Krennic (4)
•Grand Moff Tarkin (6)
ST-321 (4)

TIE Advanced x1 - •Maarek Stele - 49
•Maarek Stele - Servant of the Empire (46)
Marksmanship (1)
Fire-Control System (2)

TIE Advanced x1 - Storm Squadron Ace - 43
Storm Squadron Ace - (40)
Marksmanship (1)
Fire-Control System (2)

Total: 200/200

The support Lambda, giving free Locks and with a Ion cannon seems like a good complement, now that it ions are more dangerous. Ioned ships should allow for easier bullseye shots, therefore Marksmanship instead of Crackshot.

I ended up upgrading one X1 to Maarek Stele, since he is awesome...not sure if giving him Opt. Prototype or use it in another X1, to make it more menacing, or even leave it in the Lambda to improve the Ion cannon.

So... is it too bad an idea?

I've been pondering Passive Sensors for the Advanced x1 generics since the card was spoiled, which lets them acquire on approach without the need for Jendon. It doesn't allow for focus+lock on the first engagement like you can with Jendon's pre-lock, but on the other hand it's foolproof in getting the right lock at the right time. It keeps them lean enough that you can fit 3 Tempests and still have room for Vader/Afterburners/FCS as the ace. Of course that makes it a very different list in the end.

With your list, the only thing I can see is that I would lean more to Crackshot than Marksmanship on the Storms (maybe keep Maarek with Marksmanship for maximum synergy with his ability). These guys are getting one hit-to-crit from their ship ability anyway, so I suspect that Crackshot removing evades will get more face-up damage cards dealt out overall than doubling up on crit dice results that won't both go through a lot of the time vs high-agility targets.

Ever since passive sensors has been spoiled, i've been looking for a squadron of these guys, since i think they are fairly efficient (a bit like the khiraxz on the scum faction).

When compared to the X-wing, the tie advanced with passive sensors ends up with 1 less hull and 1 more agility. Overall, i think that's a good deal, considering they come out at the same points cost. I made a couple of squads with them:

"Whisper" (57)
Passive Sensors (3)
Fifth Brother (9)

Ship total: 69 Half Points: 35 Threshold: 3

Storm Squadron Ace (40)
Crack Shot (1)

Txs for the feedback! I dismissed Pasive Sensors early on since it leaves FCS out, and I thought FCS was a must have in the X1.

Crackshot in the generics does make sense.

Nice to see that a good combination of 3 named or generics X1s can fly with either an ace or a lambda.

Any thoughts on the ionising lambda?

  • I'm kinda not into Passive Sensors x1. To me, the strength of the /x1 over some other 3-red mainline jouster like an X-Wing or a Kihraxz is the 3 agility. These things can be tanky, but it depends on green dice, thus it depends on Focus. FCS is also really good. Maintaining locks rather than spending them allows you to take non-lock or non-Passive Sensors actions.
  • Jendon makes a lot of sense. That lets your /x1 roll in with Locks, and Tarkin keeps options open (have Jendon lock someone other than who everyone else is locking, so you can switch if your opponent tries to get cute).
    • I think Krennic might be a good option over Targeting Computer. Even though TC is cheaper, putting OptProt on one of the generics can make it a bit more threatening, and make it a bit more opportunistic. If it can't get a shot on it's own locked target, but can shoot Jendon's target, you'll be able to have an effective round with a 2-dice popgun.
    • I go back and forth on ST-321. Jendon grabs locks at long range and will roll into the fight with one, and probably also really wants to Reinforce (since he's such an easy target). I keep thinking Shield Upgrade is probably a nice thing to have.
      • I guess it depends on how effective the Tarkin tricks are. If you're able to burn down the initial target with long-range locks from Jendon, and then you can switch to the ship Jendon locked the next round with Tarkin, you might not need Jendon to coordinate to help reset locks in the middle-game. If Jendon isn't coordinating, ST-321 doesn't matter.
    • A totally different direction to go with Jendon would be Shield or Hull (or Targeting Computer), ST-321, and Emperor Palpatine. With the 3 green dice of the TIE Advanced, they'll probably be able to make good use of the Force, and Jendon's coordinate will probably be necessary, so the title will also put in work.
  • I'd go with Crack Shot over Marksmanship on non-Maarek ships, and even on Maarek it's a toss-up. Maarek with Crack is good, since ATC probably gets you a crit, and Crack Shot can help make sure it gets through your opponent's green dice. Oh, but Marksmanship is so tasty. As I said, it's a toss-up.
  • I'd also consider swapping one generic for Ved Folso, if points allow. There's enough low-Init stuff out there where Ved's text and higher initiative could be useful. Zertik Strom doesn't really interest me.

Here's another list I've tried out with x1 generics which I liked: 4 Tempests + Howlrunner (either FCS Tempests, or Shield Upgrade Howl). She'll deliver the /x1 into the fight with Focus tokens for safety and still give them decent offense. Then they can get locks on the second round of combat, ideally throw some blocks to split enemy fire, and not worry as much about not having focus tokens.
