Radiation Zone Assault Troopers, also known as Radiation Zone Assault Stormtroopers, or simply Radtroopers, were elite members of the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps. They were well equipped to operate in one of the deadliest terrain types: heavy radiation zones.

Radiation zones above Grade 4 caused continuous malfunctions in most powered weapons. As a result Radtroopers blaster carbines were more powerful than standard Stormtrooper issue weapons to compensate for the effects of malfunctions. Radtroopers also received extensive training with melee weapons which they would switch to when their blasters failed.

Radtroopers were deployed to the planet of Qat Chrystac at the time of Grand Admiral Thrawn's command of part of The Empire. Qat Chrystac was a volcanic planet with a type IV atmosphere that required most life forms to wear an environment suit. Radioactive lava spewed from hissing crevasses in the planet's surface. Due to its harsh environment, a Rebel cell decided it would make an ideal place to establish a base.

Radtroopers, along with representatives from every specialized Stormtrooper Corps, were assigned to Grand Moff Tarkin’s OverSector Outer and Darth Vader’s Death Squadron.

The simple act of donning Radtrooper armor also resulted in at least one victory over the Rebel Alliance, most infamously during the Battle on Immalia, where Imperial troops suited up in Radtrooper armor and caused the rebels to call an immediate retreat out of fear of operating in a contaminated zone when in actuality the troops donned the armor because that was simply what was available at that particular base. General Carlist Rieekan later reflected that they gave up the ground for nothing.

They look a little too Halo for my liking.

Well Halo can be forgiven for copying from the BEST.

They certainly are radtroopers. 😳 πŸ˜‚

What were the writers thinking? Were they not old enough to have lived through the 80s? πŸ˜‚

That’s rad. πŸ˜‰ 😁

Still why not RZ or RZA Trooper. Everyone seems to love acronyms. 😊

The Empire would need some kind of hazardous mission troopers for areas that are totally unsafe for humans. It’s a cool idea, in spite of the name. 😎 😁

That's how I picture my snow troopers being used in a non-Hoth force. HazTroopers.

@JediPartisan if you think that’s a bad acronym -

From 1922 to December 1941, the Commander in Chief, United States Fleet, who was given operational and strategic command over all US Atlantic, Pacific, and Asiatic Fleets, as well as all naval coastal forces, had the lovely acronym of CINCUS , pronounced "sink us." πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

The Japanese Imperial Navy was happy to oblige.

This is a variation that seems like ordinary stormtrooper armor should work. Since it was conceived as an "armored space suit", and space can hit you with some pretty bad doses of radiation.

Where were they published? I don't recall them from my many WEG books. But I didn't have them all, and most that I had were lost.

They were first mentioned in print by name in Fragments of the Rim but were alluded to a few years before that.

I’ll send you a copy of Rules of Engagement: The Rebel SpecForces Handbook this week.

Thanks. It would have been like a needle in a haystack to sift them out of the holocron.
