Miniature Market has shipped my Clone Wars Legion

By FastWalker, in Star Wars: Legion

People on the Legion Discord and on Facebook are reporting the same shipping notifications, and I believe more than a few have recieved tracking info that shows that something has been picked up by FedEx/UPS/USPS/whomever. Look like the MM people won the lottery, and will be getting the product they paid for before the rest of us. Congrats. Just one of many reasons why a global release is stupid.

Mine is in transit with Fedex, so looks like actually shipped.

I don’t think you can blame FFG if Miniature Market ignored a hold order. Coordinated releases are generally good business practice to avoid scalping and the perception of market favoritism.

Ordered mine yesterday and I just got a shipping notification.

Thanks squad...

I guess this karmatically balances out the time(s) I've heard people who ordered from MM not getting product on or about the release date.

The issue isn't really the coordinated release, the issue is more the "Release on the October 4" followed the next day by "WAIT NO!"

The reasoning behind the sudden hold after giving the go ahead seems weird to me, wasn't the stated reason for the change to ensure there was "enough" product? I guess it's possible someone didn't check how much product was in the warehouses before giving the initial go ahead, but at that point the cat is kind of out of the bag, some distributors will have already shipped product, as will some stores. I image 24 hours is plenty of time for a distributor to have most/much of a given product out the doors.

Once MM started shipping product, it's probably better for them to finish rather than stop and end up with disgruntled customers who are seeing other people's shipping notifications on social media.

Yeah, but releasing product months early at a convention is kinda the opposite of that. That encourages scalping and give a strong perception of market favoritism. So (arguably) do con exclusives that are not also available on the company's webpage during the convention (even if it is only available in limited quantities online). To be clear, I am not personally offended by these practices, just pointing out a discrepancy.

Exactly. And now that the nexu is out of the bag, continuing to hold on to product comes off less as benevolent act and more one of stubborn pride. They said to hold, and by golly they're going to demand everyone hold, even if several places already ignored that order.

And, as I said in the hyptothetical situation where France got their stuff early, I'd be fine with it. I'm fine with the people who ordered their stuff from MM getting it early; I'm fine with those (like myself) that either went to GenCon for the pre-release or paid the scalpers. I'm not fine with the artificial delay that has already failed and serves no purpose.

Toys R Us and other major retailers broke the rules on it all the time with SW LEGO stuff. What are you gonna do about it? Cancel your account with [mega retailer]? Nope.

If you’re serious about it? Yes.

Or you put them under a contract if they want a future shipment, and they violate at the risk of financial penalties. But, again, that’s only if you’re being serious about protecting your bottom line from rogue actors.

The only issue I have with the early sales at GenCon is how much in advance they were from the actual release. The product is done, we know it is done because FFG has already started selling it. Now, I understand unforeseen delays are a thing and that the product at GenCon was a rush order, so logically I get that the intention probably was to have the GenCon releases only be about a month in advance of the actual release, but that doesn't stop the non-logical portion of my mind from being a tiny tiny bit annoyed (like exasperated sigh, shrug and move on kind of annoyed, not decry FFG as the devil online kind of annoyed).

But yeah, at this point the delay is making FFG/Asmodee look worse and worse.

This is probably the REAL reason why FFG has so many "Ship now... No wait!... Ship nn... Wait!" To wait for manufacturing catch up with demand for a worldwide release just seems like a jerk move.

Even if this isn't the real reason, what's the point? For Australia to get XWing Wave 4 a month early cuz FFG said, "Okay... No wait!" And then Barnes and Noble do the same 2 weeks later. FFG still remained stubborn and refused to release the points. Why? Releasing points helps hype your product and often increases a buyer's desire to buy more. Holding on to those points made players more angry than whatever conceived notion FFG has for holding worldwide release.

Now regretting ordering with Cardhaus over miniature market

People have now posted pictures of the core set in hand.... The shipping rumors are no joke!

so much for that global release

Oh god its so tempting to try ordering off MM to see if I can get it early. Would love to get my hands on the models quicker to start painting and playing with them.

Well played, Miniature Market. Well played.

If MM decided to ship on the original release date and not play games with FFG, then perhaps MM's true motive was to convince buyers to buy from them next time.

Either that, or they are making up to buyers for a previous fiasco.

It worked, I cancelled one of my core sets orders from Cardhaus to order from Miniature Market, the guy on the phone said it should get shipped on the 4th at the latest, Cardhaus has it listed for Halloween shipment

Thanks for letting us know @FastWalker! I checked after I saw your post and don’t see a notification but I’ll check again Friday. Have a fun unboxing.

Lol. The box will arrive in New York a day ahead of me. Now it’s me that’s delayed shipping.

Haha. How does that work?

Can i assume you're traveling? Or time traveling? Hmmm...

It’s a race between Legion: CLone Wars and my firstborn to see who will be delivered first!

MM won't be shipping until Oct 4 at the earliest, now, likely later based on the recent email that was sent out :(

Looks like FFG slapped MM on the wrist and they aren't sending any more out until the 4th.

Apparently there was an unexpected last minute hold-up at customs, which is what caused the no-wait don't release yet situation.

Classic FFG and their planning!

How do you know FFG slapped MM on the wrist? Thanks for the update.

sounds like a German issue at their customs is the issue......

From what I can gather, looks like MM sent out an email saying no further product would be shipped out. I'm speculating here, but it's likely they either ran out of product and have to wait for more, or FFG sent them a nasty gram telling them to cut it out.

If that's the case, then it's the hyper focus on simultaneous worldwide release to blame for at least this latest delay. Can't say I'm super surprised.

Still, for all the focus on worldwide releases, selling product early at conventions is a bit odd. In my opinion, that's almost the direct opposite of stopping everything because of issues with one or more country's customs (I personally don't know if Germany is just the staging point for all European deliveries). Let a small group of people buy the product (attendees of the con) leading to the same kind of scalping that a simultaneous worldwide release is supposed to avoid. Yes, it increases visibility of the product and the excitement among the fans, but this year especially the follow through was lacking a bit. Of the three(?) products available early, two of them have now missed release windows by fairly wide margins due to presumably different issues, putting their releases far enough from the con for much of the excitement to have died down a tad. Dewbacks at least we know exactly how late they are since we know they were intended to release alongside Shoretroopers. The CW core we can only speculate as to FFG's original target date.

I can't help but wonder a bit if the lack of QA that should have caught the Dewback's bases and whatever non-customs related issues delayed the CW core were related to rushing the production to get copies in time for sale GenCon...

Hmmm... makes you wonder what really happened.

This FFG obsession with worldwide release is tiresome. If product is delayed that would affect more than half of the buyers, then sure delay. But if its because of one country's customs, don't punish everyone.

Yeah, FFG's QA department needs a kick in the tooshy. My favorite one was where XWing ships' peg connectors were mounted backwards. Easy fix, but very obvious.

The listed Oct 4 ship date does leave me hopeful that we'll see a release on that date or even the following Friday, rather than the late-October that I've been expecting. Then again, with this many delays, I don't know why I'm hopeful about anything.
