No one wrote about him but I need to. There's something funny about this pilot, because he has strange ability, that at first sight is useless, but is unlimited and affects all your ships.
' While a friendly ship at range 0-3 defends, it may roll 1 additional defense die for each friendly bomb or mine at 0-1 of it. '
So the option is to drop Proximity Mines, do a 2 hard turn and barrel roll forward toward the mine. After that you are at R1 of that mine in the same turn you dropped it. The next turn you also do 2 hard, clear the stress because of R4 astromech, barrel roll and you are still at R1 of the mine. Following turns, 'until the end of the time' you can do 2 hard turns around it without overlapping but still being at R1 of it.
What's more, you can start the turn with 2 additional Y-wing dropping mines at the exactly same position as the first mine. Also they can do the same 2 hard, barrel roll, 2 hard, barrel roll, 2 hard, 2 hard...
I'm pretty sure that you can do this with 4 Y-wings, but it is easy with 3.
So for example you have a list like this:
You have 3 Y-wing and Obi, Y-wings have amazing stats 2/4/5/3 and can point turrets toward enemies, Obi has 'only' 2/6/3/1 with 3 force but can give additional focuses to his friends.
So blocking doesn't really breaks your fortress after you start it, because you can simply do a 2 hard turn the next turn. Tractors and Ions are the real problems. Also you have 3 more Proximity Mines to use. You can use Delayed Fuses to cancel one enemy attempt to detonate mines himself.
UPDATE
So I've checked more things. You can start the game as far form the edge as you can, do a 2 hard turn and barrel roll toward enemy side and start dropping mines the 2nd turn! Also after 2 hard, barrel roll, 2 hard, barrel roll, you can go 1 straight and barrel roll forward and drop a mine at nearly the same spot as the first mine! Then 2 hard, barrel roll, 2 hard, barrel roll and you are back to fortress.
You can start with to Y-wings next to each other and one moves 2 hard left and barrel forward and the second moves 2 hard right and middle barrel roll to place Proximity mine at the same spot.
The third one can start next to them doing 2 hard first turn, which will end just under future Proximity Mines. Next turn he will 1 straight, barrel roll forward and drop his mine at the same spot!
