Build me an army...

By joewrightgm, in Star Wars: Legion

Worthy of the Empire!

so I finally took the plunge. I bought a core set. And Bossk, cause he looks cool.

so there’s a lot of resources out there about what to buy/not to buy when starting. It’s commonly held that a 2nd core set is the next step, and yeah it seems like a good idea, but I’m not entirely sold yet on that.

so assuming no 2nd core, what could $130 USD get me?

Assuming no 2nd core set, maybe Shoretroopers would be good to reach the minimun of 3 corps and even 4 if you also field the Mortar they bring.

Scout Troopers are also good because a single expansion lets you field 2 special forces units (1 full and 1 strike team) and bot heavy weapons are good and fun to play.

As I like the heavies, I'd reccomend buying the AT-ST or Occupier Tank, the one you like the most how it looks, they are both really fun to play and now with the points adjustment the AT-ST got a little more competitive.

That leaves you with around $15 to $25 more to spend. Maybe 1 or 2 commanders to have more variety and not only depend on Vader.

Nice! I have one core set too and nothing else I would say buy two core sets on amazon. There on sale https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Legion-Core-Set/dp/B076JNSDGL/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=Legion+Star+Wars&qid=1568923265&sr=8-2 I’m probably going to buy one more but I can’t buy two, but If I could spend $130 I would get two core sets.

You could probably buy 6 expansions because most of the expansions cost $20 each if your getting troops like death trooper squad or any other squad.

Watch this video. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ybD3WZ5Bq6o

What faction are you going to be or are you going to be both? That’s what I’m doing.

Disclaimer, I do not know how competitive these lists are but it'll get you playing. I have played on TTS a bit and have been following the forums and such since Clone wars was announced, but I am waiting for the new starter to start collecting physical models. So take the following suggestions with that in mind.

797 points:

Darth Vader (Saber Throw, Force Push)
Bossk
Stormtroopers (DLT-19 Stormtrooper)
Stormtroopers (DLT-19 Stormtrooper)
Shoretroopers (T-21B Trooper, Shoretrooper)
Shoretroopers (T-21B Trooper, Shoretrooper)
DF-90 Mortar Trooper
DF-90 Mortar Trooper
74-Z Speeder Bikes

Commands:
Merciless Munitions (1), Implacable (1), New Ways to Motivate Them (2), Reptilian Rampage (2), Master of Evil (3), Lying in Wait (3), Standing Orders (4)

This only requires the purchase of 2 Shore trooper boxes.

For closer to 80-90 bucks, you could pick up Director Krennic, A unit or two of Death Troopers, and a box of Shore troopers for a more Scarif themed list.

790 points (feel free to add an upgrade or two)

Director Orson Krennic (Strict Orders)
Bossk
Stormtroopers (DLT-19 Stormtrooper)
Stormtroopers (DLT-19 Stormtrooper)
Shoretroopers (T-21B Trooper, Shoretrooper)
DF-90 Mortar Trooper
Imperial Death Troopers (DLT-19D Trooper, E-11D Focused Fire Config)
Imperial Death Troopers (DLT-19D Trooper, E-11D Focused Fire Config)
74-Z Speeder Bikes

Commands:
Merciless Munitions (1), Voracious Ambition (1), Reptilian Rampage (2), Deploy the Garrison (2), Lying in Wait (3), Annihilation Looms (3), Standing Orders (4)

$130 MSRP?

Death Troopers x2 ($50), Shoretroopers ($30), E-Web ($20), Krennic ($13), Imperial Specialists ($20) - yeah, you gotta dig $3 out of your sofa cushions...

After running them this past weekend, I'm a big fan of pairing the E-Web with the Shoretroopers. Toss the Comms Specialist onto the Shores for HQ Uplink. They can pass the order token to the E-web or Mortar as needed.

You will need a second $15 set of dice. Buy two core sets. You’ll get another $70 worth of imperials for $63. Plus $15 dice. Extra rulers and barricades are nice ($30).

Plus your rebels will be in decent shape for FREE.

Otherwise if I had $130 to spend on Empire I’d get 3x snow troopers and an AT-ST. Maybe e-webs or Veers.

Amazon has some sort of fire sale on the starters, so done. What expansion to add after that?

With the other $70ish I would get whatever you think looks cool. Specialists or Priority Supplies will do the most to expand your variety of games. Then personally I would buy an AT-ST because Star Wars.

I'm strongly not in the 2 core set camp if you like variety than that is not the way to go

As to how else to fill $70, whatever you want - a heavy unit like AT-ST would be cool. I’d consider picking up Veers or Krennic and some other units for commander variety beyond Vader.

If you go Krennic make sure to pick up a Death Troopers.

Death troopers, Veers and Krennic. Deathtroopers are really strong and versatile, and Krennic and Veers can give you some commander variety and also each pairs well with death troopers.

You can also wait for Black Friday sales, with Clone Wars set coming I can see your Core Set going for $59 and free shipping.

I personally like Scout Troopers, Shore Troopers and Death Troopers. The upcoming upgrade cards should be of help to you as well.

They were even less than that last Black Friday, without Clone Wars via FFG's Amazon account. I even got an AT-ST and T-47 for $17 and $9 respectively, I think from Miniatures Market.

You need to wait for Deeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwbbbbaaaaaaaaaccccccccckkkkkkkkkkssssssssssssss

Your right!

I checked, second Core set for $46.00 and two more AT-STs and two more Speeders at the prices you indicated.
