Clone Wars yet again expected out on Force Friday?

By MicroManager, in Star Wars: Legion

Is the Clone Wars core set yet again expected out October 4th? Or has FFG trouble communicating the recent extra delay in a way their vendors understand?

The reason I ask this, is that some online vendors have stated on their preorder page for The Clone Wars core set, that they were awaiting an official release date from FFG. In it self nothing unexpected - what baffles me, is that vendors are today (one day after the 'Ooops we're sorry it's not coming out October 4th anyway-mail) updating their preorder pages with .....you guessed it....Clone Wars core set - released on October 4th!?????

What do you think? Are we back on track afterall?

Maybe, Maybe not, probably depends on whatever the "delay" was caused by. If it relates to shipping or dist at all, I wouldn't expect to get them sooner. It's probably just about as accurate as the upcoming page saying these sets got knocked all the way back to "in development"

Most online retailers have to list SOMETHING for preorder release date, so they slap some date on the page and leave it. October 4 is far enough away that FFG will have likely updated the actual release date to retailers/distributors by then, so they will likely change to match.

Also, didn't our last communication from FFG state that they let retailers know and then us? I bet some of these retailers didn't notice/get the latest update and still decided to list it as Oct 4th?

Cute, how you cling onto your pathetic hope. Give in to your anger, get enraged by the delay like everybody else!

I don't actually care about any of this stuff, been around the block too many times. I point it out when I think release choices are too limiting in the current state of the game but I don't actually think about it when I'm going about my day. If I'm bored I can just go play Star Wars figures with my kids. Also a manmade mass extinction event has occurred within my own lifetime and is still ongoing. So that's distracting me from things like game shipping delays.

I do kinda want a droid army because miniatures. But it can wait however long it takes, I got enough unfinished projects already.

Is it custom made? Because I want that t-shirt

There's a shop on etsy that sells 'em. I snagged this one and one that says "only imperial stormtroopers are so precise" With 6 blank white attack dice on it.

I think they also have one with the melee symbol and vader's lightsaber stats on it.

I only want it if I can use some of those results during my games

like in Bloodbowl, I need to build in a certain number of rerolls in my army list

Well, I can appreciate your concern over the impact the global warming will have on your all but extinct Tauntauns natural habitat 😀 - But that aside, it is a little easy to play it cool (pun intended) when you already have your eagerly and long awaited winter toys to keep you busy for a long time. 😁

I too have been around the block quite a bit longer than most, and I personally don't have any love for the prequel trilogy - I actually thought it to be a shame when FFG already after only one year announced that they would shift focus away from OT, and considered my time with Legion as finished when the Clone Wars took over.

But my kids really loves the Clone Wars animated series - and it has made them very, very eager to finally play Clone Wars Legion. Patience is a virtue that we grownups already have acquired, but smaller kids really haven't developed that part of their brains properly yet, so these delays and even more so the lack of a given release date (which to kids is like telling them just wait 'till Christmas but not really sure when Christmas will be - it should be late Q4, but maybe pushed to early Q1 or even late Q1 - we'll let you know kiddo when the dates are firming up...) is really taking a toll on them and so they keep asking me for some useable info.

So sorry if I seem alittle pathetic for asking for opinions on the possible release dates on this forum on behalf of my kids - I personally don't care much for the whole Dewbackle, but then again I don't feel the need to comment on people who do care - mass extinction or not. 😉

not distracting enough to keep you off these hot forums though :D

Hardly the worst thing a parent has done for their kids. It's not like you're demanding FFG release the miniatures, just trying to tap into the collective rumour network of Legion fans 😛 .

Unfortunately, FFG isn't great for giving set release dates, which will make pretty much every release feel like a moving Christmas. Luckily overall Legion has been pretty good about hitting the monthly release schedule considering that's a blistering pace for a miniatures company.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the PT, but the Clone Wars cartoon on the other hand is a different story. THAT I enjoy immensely, and in my opinion is a bit of a better era for a wargame, rather than a mostly guerrilla rebellion (not that I don't love the stuff from OT).

At this point, I'm pretty sure even FFG has no clue what's going on. Stuff will come out when it comes out. Assuming that MM is in fact shipping stuff, it looks like we'll have a variety of release dates. Pre-release at GenCon, post-pre-release in late September from MM, and sometime in October for everyone else. May a few more post-post-pre-releases thrown in there as well if places start selling things early as well.

Depends on how many distributors sent out product to retailers honestly. While the distributor might have the warehouse space to sit on a few thousand boxes of merchandise, many retail stores don't have enough space to store product off the sales floor long term. My FLGS only has a bare minimum backroom essentially the size of a moderate walk in closet. Big enough to store large shipments for a day or two before the official release, but not enough to store items for weeks. If they received their order, they'd almost have to put it on the sales floor, or at LEAST distribute to those of us that pre-ordered.

Start with that intern who runs the upcoming page. Man o man, is he bad at his job. That, or the person who tells him what to change and what to change it to. either way, that page is the biggest joke in the company.

Just imagine how much money they've lost due to this failed release. And now, MM is shipping core sets. Why prevent others from getting their sets?

A complete joke.

Yeah, at this point people will flock to MM since it is actively shipping product, hurting FLGS. At this point FFG/Asmodee probably should reverse the hold AGAIN just to avoid MM having unfair advantage.

Heck, I expect MM to have a massive uptick in Legion pre-orders because people will hope it gets them their product sooner, barring FFG/Asmodee doing something drastic like preventing MM from stocking their merchandise.

Yep, I didn't preorder my set and was planning on picking up two sets from my local store. Yesterday, I placed an order for 1 set from MM to see if it ships.

Very fortunate.

That's what I'm hoping for, though I don't expect it. If they've already failed at their big, simultaneous global release, the best answer is to try to make as many people happy as they can, and push product. Sitting on it now will just piss even more people off.

For you? Yes ( I have to admit, I was also tempted, but I already budgeted for buying my starters in October at this point).

For your FLGS? No, since they (presumably) lost the sale of one set.

And while a sale is a sale as far as FFG is concerned, hurting FLGSs is bad for them in the long term since those are the places people generally go to play their TT games.

Especially with all the attention being given to the "official" notifications being posted to social media. If this is how most releases go for FFG, no wonder they obfuscate so much...

Turning every square inch of habitat into farms and housing is probably having a bigger impact on extinction rates. Course deforesting anything we can get our hands on also increases the greenhouse effect, so this stuff can be hard to tease apart. People hunting things to extinction because of a rapidly growing demand for interestingly shaped animal body parts, to use in traditional "medicine", certainly isn't helping.

Even before the tauntauns were released, maybe I didn't care much cause I already have lots of SW minis from the last 3 games. I just don't get why the releases are so repetitive. Virtually everything is from the stormtrooper legions, nearly every rebel fits into Scariff-inspired armies. Where's the imperials in cloth uniforms? Where are all the weird creatures and stuff of the rebellion? Now that we have Hoth rebels, and once the new rebel specialists and the Dewbacks hit shelves, the blandness of Legion will be solved IMO though.

Clone Wars starter sets are on the streets, even if in small numbers, so we know we'll get our 2 more factions. It's not like the aforementioned 40 years of wondering when the new pre-painted spaceship will be seen.

Whenever this supply-chain snafu is fixed, I think we'll see a CW release that looks like GCW's first year and we'll be back to worrying about Lobot spam or something. I honestly don't know enough about the prequels to even have opinions on that though. Personally I think the trade war heating up is the cause though so it's hard to say. That would explain why releases went along fine (for an FFG thing) in Legion till now. Course there's another scenario I could see explaining everything. FFG's small stature lent itself to volatile releases because they'd run out of money halfway through a project. Legion is post-Disney, whose connections may have helped to make things happen more smoothly. Until the trade war.

For now just put whoever runs the page for Spain, in charge of all them.

Probably not much. This affects you a lot . So your unconscious perception of it is, it must have a huge impact on FFG and the overall state of the game. It doesn't. You know how sometimes it isn't worth it to you, to stop and pick up a lost coin in the street? Amounts of cash that could change the course of my life, are like that coin to a big company. If it's metaphorically raining and in a busy intersection, or they're metaphorically running late to pickup their kid from daycare, it isn't worth it to them to stop and pick up that pile of money.

Kinda like how I spend amounts of money on games, that could, if applied in the right way and at the right time, positively alter the trajectory of the life of an orphan.

Causing MM to take more orders than they can actually fill (as is their custom), and balance will be restored.

It could also have to do with the relationship with Asmodee, resulting in more pressure to ensure simultaneous worldwide releases rather than just saying "Well, the ship to Europe's been delayed, but why should that hold up everyone else?"

In the long term, yes it should balance. But in the short term, if an FLGS orders Legion stuff and it doesn't sell, then that's a fair amount of product sitting on their shelves taking up space and tying up their money. Hopefully the FLGS will be able to weather the slight hit, BUT that still means a release or two of reduced sales.

Alternately, depending on the relationship MM has with the distributor, MM gets more of the product to fill their pre-orders, leaving less product for FLGSs to put on their shelves.

Weather or not it has a huge impact isn't the point. The point is they will lose a significant flow of profits AND it will hurt community LGS because of this mishap. Trust me, the people at the top are not happy with what is going down with this release (or maybe I'm giving them to much credit).

A logical approach would to prevent future mishaps (like this) from happening.
