Rebel Gunline

By arnoldrew, in Army Building

Does anybody have any thoughts thoughts on building a Rebel gunline list? I'm basically counting on Cassian having a range 5 attack due to his sniper rifle so he can hang back and support the rest of the list with fire, but Leia wouldn't be bad either with Take Cover and her Coordinated Bombardment turn (perhaps she could take Electrobinoculars as well for something else to do). I think 3 laser cannon teams is a given. I've been playing them since the range increase and always taking them with HQ Uplink and Barrage Generator (also went down 3 points) so they just shoot and recover each turn and they've been pretty successful. They also bring a native Impact 2 so they are good against an armor list. When the REbel Trooper upgrade pack comes out we will have a range 4 Heavy Weapon option to annoyingly plink our enemies just like Imperials have been able to do since day 1.

The big thing I've been thinking about is if 3 units of Pathfinders could work better than 3 Sniper Strike Teams. Strike teams are 48 points (52 with Duck and Cover, not an auto-include by any means but also not bad) while Pathfinders with the free Armament and D&C (definitely auto-include on them) are only 72. They have one less range, but bring a variety of extra abilities to the table, such as being significantly tougher (more HP, Danger Sense) and being more able to contest objectives (Infiltrate, Dauntless). Damage is probably a wash, especially if they get in Range 2 or 3 of your Pathfinders. With the Pathfinders you would probably infiltrate them closer to your deployment zone so their *** is totally hanging out in the breeze but can be covered by your 1.4s.

3 each of fully equipped laser cannon teams and Pathfinders would cost 477 points. Leia with upgrades is probably 100, and Cassian will probably be closer to 130-150. so that really leaves 200 points for Corps. Realistically that's 5 minimum units to contest objectives (I've had success with that in the past if the rest of my list is distracting enough) or 3 fully equipped units with Heavy Weapons, making the list 10 activations. I don't know if it's good, but I'm definitely going to try it.

I think it might be a good idea, especially with game modes needing you to defend (breakthrough, recover the supplies)

What do you mean by more HP?

I mean they have more HP. 3 units of Pathfinders have 12x1HP models, whereas 3 strike teams have 6x1HP models.

Ah ok, I thought you were saying they had more HP per model, like the wookies.

this is something I theory crafted.

basically stay at range 4

with the chances of splitting fire I think it would be worth swapping duck and cover on the Bistan unit for Hunter, especially since you have the scopes.

As it stands you can either shoot and recover or aim and shoot with him. If you recover Ààthe scopes are not worth the points as you won't get the chance to aim. Duck and cover. So swapping for Hunter you have the possibility of picking up 2 aim tokens of Bistan splits fire (example against Armor you may want to target Bistan o the Armor and the rest of the unit against the nearest fleshy unit. This then frees up Bistan to shoot at Armor ideally wounded and the rest to shoot troopers picking up 2 aim tokens for either attack then they can recover allowing them to remove as many of their suppression as they require.

Shooting at the Armor (if it's a vehicle) won't give him a free Aim token since it's not a trooper. Still seems like a pretty good idea.

Sorry my bad , I really need to read the card , when it comes to Armor it's been that long since it was relevant.

Just a thought, shoot at a wounded trooper unit to get the aim but not use it for that attack. The use Bistan's shot on armor when you split fire. That would work right?

yes

Nice call , that is a tactic I figure out at the table after I miss it about 3 times(although I've done that with other units before, usually Sabine's gunslinger
