A New BSG Reboot is coming from Sam Esmail!

By TasteTheRainbow, in X-Wing Off-Topic

“Details are scant at present; we only know that Esmail’s take on the BSG mythology will be inspired directly by Moore’s 21st century reboot and not Glen A. Larson’s 1978 original. That said, there has yet to be any suggestion of whether Esmail’s Battlestar Galactica will carry over any of Moore’s extant story lines or characters. Esmail was quick to scuttle the “reboot” tag, however. In a tweet, the creature reassured fans his show would “explore a new story” within the mythology.”

I wonder, will they keep the new look cylon ships, and their reliance on missiles/projectiles, or go back to the lasers of old?

Sooooo... another prequel? While Esmail and the more or less non-use of shaky-cam (by modern standards) in "Mr. Robot" give me some hope (the final season and half or so of BSG, from about the trial of Balthar and "Caprica" were practically unwatchable because of the shaky-cam) I'm not finding myself enthused about this. While I have continued to enjoy "Mr. Robot" there have been some choices in the show that don't speak well of the creators. That second season was a bit of a trainwreck. Like the creators didn't like what the audience took out of the show.

And putting the thing behind another streaming service is wearying. It's like the studios have missed piracy.

Agreed about the streaming services. I’ll take a half-decent BSG over a decent show of most IPs any day though.

Honestly i hope he does the first Cylon War on the 13th colony. Tons of rooms for the story to go wherever he wants while still being same-universe and not retconning anything.

I've seen some sources say it's a reboot, this article says spinoff. I hope it's more in the spinoff variety, myself.

It will be "both" won't it? The idea that leaps to mind in keeping with the mythology is leaving the Earth they found a nuclear waste in Moore's BSG and founding Kobol or leaving Kobol and founding the colonies. "It happened before it will happen again." That way they can be a "spinoff" since they'll have different characters and maybe no Caprica or such but a "reboot" since they can still do the stragglers on the run from an overwhelming intractable enemy.

It will look like and have situations that make it "BSG." They can be far enough in the past that they don't have to worry about too much retcon or being beholden to too many rules from any prior BSG stories. They can take a bunch of the stuff that identify it as BSG without being tied down by anything that came before.

I'd love to see more stuff, like we got with blood and chrome...

Or far enough in the future.

I don't care if it's a reboot or not, I'm happy to support it. It's got RDM's blessing, so chances are it'll be pretty frakking good.

But will it incorporate this

Cool. I hadn't seen that before.

Doesn't really say anything that wasn't in an episode though.

Tied into the reimagined BSG is a MAJOR strike against this. The new show was a total train wreck. Would much rather someone did a full reboot and made BSG actually be good.

Surely a Galactica 1980 remake in the style of the reimagined BSG is long overdue? A gritty sci-fi series featuring flying bikes and kid camping trips has so much potential.

I'd like to see them try to re-do the 1980 galactica, BUT NOT SO blody campy as they made it..
