No, don't worry. I will not create yet another community project. I will just real briefly share our findings from our local project (~20 players) as feedback/inspiration for the ongoing projects.
Our approach has been recost, ban and skirmish missions only and the latest one has only been discussed, no missions are yet completed.
On the ban-side we decided on five cards to be banned. Driven by hatred, Rouge smuggler, Wookie avenger, Focused on the kill and On the lam. There is a plentora of reasoning behind the bans such as our dislikes for end of turn actions, making activations overpowered and in the case of On the lam the card is simply too good and no fun. Of note, we do not consider Wookie avenger overpowered or even problematic really, it just felt easiest to remove all the fix cards.
On the cost side is where we made the most interesting observations. We made a big push to make all activations on par with the Spectre cell, pretty much cutting costs radically across the line. It was a success in general. The game immediatly felt fresh again and there were a lot of units became playable and a plentora of factions were revived like troopers, droids, return of the Bantha to battle the meta etc. However, the consequence of that was, not unexpected, that there was an increase in activations and as such the games rarely made it into turn 5 and less often into turn 4 and the games rarely made it to 40 points.
So our new experiment that will run for the next month will be to select new figures to be the norm. We debated on what units to use as a baseline and decided to not use the elite Stormtroopers as the base but rather the interesting tier 2 figures like Bossk, elite Echo base troopers, The grand inqisitor and similar. The big hitters will be increased a bit in cost, the weaker ones will be decreased in cost and we will see how the meta ends up. As said, this is an experiment, a test run. It will solve our overactivation issue. We have three tournaments in the next five weeks planned using this approach.
Our next step after this will be to begin making new missions for the printed maps or look through the missions that we have on the non-tournament maps. We are toying with the idea of making metas by having a map set that encourages certain play styles. But that will be the experiment for christmas time.
