Crafting rules/thoughts for combo items

By Mojobacca, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

If I wanted to craft a melee weapon (say a power hammer) that could also function as a ranged weapon (fire blaster bolts) by swapping functions (using maneuvers or whatnot), how would I modify the crafting process to perform this? Basically making a weapon akin to the League of Legends character Jayce.

The lightsaber in endless vigil has an inbuilt crafting upgrade. If there isn't something like it for blaster pistols you could port it. There's also the mental spear blaster in I think strongholds of Resistance. It's not a hammer but it might be close enough.

1. Take the 2 weapons you want to mimic, (e.g. blaster carbine and truncheon) lower the damage by 1 on each, and increase the crit rating. Take away the special qualities, (i'd keep Disorient 1 for the Hammer part )and give it cumbersome 3 and Unwieldy 3. Increase the sum of encumberance of the weapons by 2.

2. You may swap between the 2 modes by spending a maneuver.

3. Enjoy.

Would anyone, anywhere actually use that over just having two seperate items?

I say buy the two items, treat them in game as two seperate items mechanically, fluff them as one single item.

Swapping 2 weapons is 2 maneuvers, (1 if you drop the first, not holster it). So you practically gain a free maneuver and it has to have some setbacks to it.

Borrow "inbuilt" 1 triumph or 4 advantage from lightsaber crafting and apply it to a pistol.
