What does the VCX need to be competitive?

I haven't really been able to let this go. I was wondering if maybe it would help to look at this question from the perspective of only building a list with the Ghost/Phantom II expansion and a core set. So you've only got VCX, Sheatipede Shuttle, and a T-65 X-wing (Luke, Porkins, Red Squadron Veteran, or Blue Squadron Escort.)

That's the advice on getting started isn't it? Get a core set and the ships you like. What do you recommend they build from that?

Sorry to necro, but I haven't seen much discussion of the recent buff. It was small but who knows? Maybe it does something for the VCX, directly or indirectly. There's certainly more room for toys now.

Is this just plain silly or strangely genius? There's no one good to shoot at here. Kanan is always reinforced. If you shoot at him, you're giving him a lock and extra force, and hardly scratching him at the same time. If you don't, he uses his ability and you're rolling less dice. In the endgame you're facing a perfect-information-turreted-repositioning force user and an I4 A-Wing. Yeah, I guess Jake is a poor choice here. What I wouldn't give for an I5 Hera A-Wing...

Alternate version with a little more punch at the cost of Cassian shenanigans. Deprive them of both types of dice, but Kanan's arcs for support become extremely limited here:

You can shoot at one with -1 dice, or you can shoot at the other, giving them force and lock. Either way Chopper can block you, jam you, then double-tap you at R0.

Surprised that mention of Hatin' Kanan didn't see @SpiderMana come running from wherever :D
