Returning player, never played a game.

By Supertimland, in Army Building

Hey guys.

Coming back to legion, haven't even touched it since veers was released. Never played a game.

My old collection was 2 starters, veers, at-st, 2 boxes of fleet troopers.

Went into the lgs the other day and today and bought t 1xt-47, 1x rebel commanders, 1x rebel pathfinders, 1x Han solo and 1x rebel specialists.

Wanting to play as there seems to be a good following at that LGS.

what semi-fun and semi-competitive list can I make with these contents. I don't like playing cheese.

Thanks

there is no cheese. Whatever you build now is a thing. nothing is broken right now as far as anyone can tell. play what you want and have fun. Just don't play rebels :)

Confused on how you are a returning player that has never played a game :P

Veers 80, AtSt 170, speeder bikes (75x2) and 4 units of Stormtroopers with DLT (68x4) Season to taste with upgrades (you've got 100pts to play with or add an extra gun to the AtSt). New point values and you can fit everything almost.

You'll have to make some decisions with Rebels because you have so much. Han, fleets with scatter gun and medic, flamer atrt, more troops. Pathfinders can get in close with red dice. Its hard to keep them alive but rebels are still fun to play

I did the same with X-Wing. I have plenty of funds, plenty of time at home for assembly and painting, but with the demands of mine and my partner's jobs with 3 kids, very little do I get a chance to go out and spend a night gaming

That's the sort of imperial list I was wanting to run, and what I originally planned during wave 2? When I bought the at-st and veers. Grabbing a 2nd at-st would be fun, whilst most likely not competitive, but the only game I'm interested in playing competitively is Warmachine.

There's not much else for me to grab as all the LGSs around me have very little FFG stock with unreliable resupplies. They only have cannons, Wookies, royal guards, Paplatine and a 2nd at-st. So pickings for upgrades are slim.

I bought a landspeeder today while I was in town. Is the airpseeder still crapola even with a points drop?

Sounds like my world... there's a lot of us in that crowd.

Since the points adjustment, and the release of some new stuff that shook up the game a bit, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of cheesy nonsense right now. Just paint your favorite stuff and use it. The T-47 seems fine now. Some people say tauntauns are overpowered, but it's far from a consensus opinion.

I did get a second AT-ST, it's fun occasionally to trot both of them out, and I don't see myself painting Grand Army size factions without using two scout walkers and snowspeeders respectively. They were dirt cheap on Cyber Monday last year. All the way down to $17 and $9 for the ST and 47.

As far as other expansions go, I'm just gonna say it: buy them from online discounters. If your LGS isn't supporting you, you don't have to support them. Barring cyber monday madness, I buy only from local stores, but I have several to choose from and most of them try to keep at least one of every Legion SKU in stock at all times.

It's more the issue of getting popular FFG expansions in Australia is generally horrible.

But yes online ordering seems to be what's needed, although the available range is spread out across several different retail sites.

Just for clarification, what expansion has the snipers?

Rebel Commandos and Scout Troopers, respectively. Do your armies have a theme?

I didn't realize you were in Oz. It's notoriously hard to get wargaming stuff there. At least Eureka Minis is based there, you can get some awesome new metal in the old style!

I still think it's offense is pitiful for the cost (It averages 2 dead stormtroopers per turn, IF they are totally in the open), but it's no longer a comically bad choice. I played a list with 2 of them the other day and actually won (barely).

Praise Menoth

The airspeeder is okay, it's not going to break the game with its brilliance anytime soon but IMO it is decent. I prefer the airspeeders because it is a.little !ore offensive and irs arsenal keyword is more relevant, if your opponent didn't bring anti vehicle weaponry you can do some serious damage and now snipers are out the game you can play it and it won't just get shot out of the sky, however you won't have access to the outer rim pilot which can help you out of you have DLT taking pot shots
