Ion Weapon Quality

By P-47 Thunderbolt, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I may be reading too much into fluff text, but do weapons with the Ion quality have the ability to knock out certain systems (or something to that effect) with a crit? Or is that all just fluff text and it operates identically to personal scale weapons with the Stun Damage quality?

If it has a crit rating then it can crit. They have a crit rating so they can crit. It's as easy as that.

I actually read it the same way, but did note the lack of rules. I have allowed my players using Ion weapons to make called shots on systems without taking the 2 Setback Die penalty, and if they Hit & Crit they knock out that exact system. It hasn't come up tonnes as my players are very Pro Droid rights and as such find Ion weapons distasteful.

Also with 3 advantages you can temporarily damage a component of the enemy ship rather than deal normal damage. At two triumphs you can destroy a component rather than deal damage to the ship. Goes for normal weapon fire as well as Ion.

There's references to hydraulics somewhere else in the modification rules that suggest Ion weapons used to have different rules at one point during development but were simplified.

Yeah, that was one of the things that got me wondering, it says "1 Defender chooses ship component affected by Ion quality, as opposed to the attacker Mod" in the modification options.

In the Component and System Crits both do state that the Attacker Chooses the component/system that goes down. So it's also possible it's just oddly worded...
