The Cats Of Ulthar

By phillos, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I must have died and gone to heaven. That's the only explanation for this level of fan service.

This goes right in my Preston deck. Just another way for him to never draw a token from the chaos bag. That guy just keeps getting better.

Hope is a great way to get rid of Patrice's weakness.

The fact that the Bonded cats are fast is incredible. I actually really like them for William Yorick - elect not to shuffle them back in, and instead play from your discard pile with his ability as an alternative.

The fact that Miss Doyle doesn't have any horror healing means that Carolyn Fern can't take these cards. Which is heartbreaking.

Look at how cute the art is thooooouuuughhh! I may never play a non-Survivor investigator again.

No she can't and it's a shame.

ADD: Ashcan can though and it's not a bad idea for him when your Duke activation are all used up. never take a combat or investigation check with Ashcan's base int and str.

You could tech it with Teamwork, though.

Sorry. Edited to hide it. :)

That's a fun deck for The Secret Name. Dogs and Cats vs Rats

Why are we getting so much spoilage/new articles, and how do we make it go on forever?

Teamwork only means that somebody else gets to hold on to Miss Doyle while the other cats remain with their original player.

Seems somewhat powerful, really fun and absolutely bonkers! As someone who has been playing LOTR since the 3rd cycle, AH since launch and will likely be all-in for Champions it absolutely amazes me how well the devs manage to weave interesting theme with fun mechanics so deftly and consistently. I don't know who the best investigator to play this with is from a technical standpoint, but I have a fantastic mental picture of Wendy or Agnes weaving their way through a scenario with a secret cat army ready to strike from the shadows.

So, does this mean the encounter deck gets a Toxoplasma card which does horror damage to player for each cat they own?

I'm guessing the same issue applies with A Chance Encounter and You Owe Me One. If Ashcan has Miss Doyle in his hand and Jenny plays You Owe Me One I assume the other cat assets are not among Jenny's bonded cards... Are bonded cards assign to the player or are they just a set aside area of the game?

I guess Wendy could play You Owe Me One on Carolyn's Foolishness and be the crazy cat lady and have all the cats. Foolishness is Carolyn decks only, but I assume other players could still put him into play with things like You Owe Me One and A Chance Encounter.

Until the anchor card is played, the three additional bonded cards are "in the collection," not "in the deck" of any particular player.

My daughter and I are starting a run at The Circle Undone where she'll be playing William Yorick. I foresee Miss Doyle as an early purchase.

This is incorrect. From the rules for Bonded (Before the Black Throne rulesheet):

Quote

If your deck contains a card which summons one or more bonded cards, those bonded cards should be set aside at the start of each game.

In addition, cards that summon bonded cards read "search your bonded cards for...", not "search your collection for...".

It's not fully clear whether the "bonded cards" are a shared pool or whether each player has their own collection of bonded cards, but the use of "your" strongly indicates that these are specific to investigators, not shared (see RR, "You/Your"); a shared pool of bonded cards would be better worded as "search the bonded cards for...".

It also makes far more sense for bonded cards to be tied to specific investigators rather than a group pool, for situations where multiple players are running the same bonded/summoning cards (e.g. Hallowed Mirror/Soothing Melody) - the rules work far more cleanly if each investigator uses their own collection of Bonded cards to avoid issues like whose copies of Soothing Melody a player has added to their deck, what happens if players are using different card sleeves, etc.

I think it's neither a shared pool nor tied to an investigator. They are Bonded to the anchor card, so they are controlled by whoever controls the anchor.

Definitely needs a ruling, though.

I will jump through hoops to give Carolyn all the cats.

Welp, I am suddenly less concerned with Patrice's stat line.

The best part is, Hope's discard ability is explicitly an evasion test that automatically succeeds, meaning Patrice can use it to discard her weakness.

Do we know if Luke can take these? Auger could really help with his weakness.

Zeal’s discard would work on Patrice’s weakness as well so you’ve got a 2/3 chance

No kidding! It’s like Christmas is coming early.

I read somewhere that there is a live play-through that could be watched of the first scenario, either coming up really fast, or maybe happened in the last day or two. (I have a terrible memory for dates). Maybe they figure the cards will be out on the table anyway, so why not spoil them.

Yup. They pretty much save her. Maybe the concern expressed about Patrice’s investigator card was sensed by those incalculable felines and they leaked their prowess to save her from anymore shame! Such a kitty of Ulthar thing to do. I’m sure they are purring away, very self satisfied.

So what is up with the pumpkins? Because it is a Fall release? And I noticed that the symbol for Dreamlands is a cat. Could there be more mooning about...
