Building with Y-wings

I'm not sure if Matchstik will be the problem when nerfs come around, if anything i think he might be the piece that may go down in points.

To be sure. Obi is almost surely going up, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Matchstick come down slightly. But Matchstick with VTG and R4 probably will cost more than a Wollfe who can be built cheaply.

If I'm choosing between Obi, Plo, Wollfe, Broadside, or Obi, Ric, Matchstick, Broadside, my first impression is I'd rather have Plo/Wollfe over Ric/Matchstick. I could be wrong.

Its exactly the change I think should work, that is almost entirely the role. I only tried him once on the table, against my boy no less, and lost fairly convincingly. The ARC can't make the same kind of minimal adjustment on approach to disguise and sidestep all the focus fire.

I'd have to give it a lot more play to unlock it, it may just require some adjustment to the overall pattern. Might only be harder to work out optimal paths, rather than impossible.

ARCs are such great value on paper, but on table, they always seem like they have a harder time accomplishing their goals than expected.

And it's all that Medium Base. ARCs and Y-Wings have the same white/red to their dial, only different in the blues.

Absolutely. With a small base and a good angle, you can dodge at least 50% of a formations coverage. If you can Init kill part of what remains, it's pretty helpful.

Swarm tech. I think it's a different list. More beef, less ace, or vice versa. There simply isn't room to swap things around without changng the whole dynamic.

Bombs are nice, but if you aren't massively careful, you'll never live to drop them anyway.

There are general options though.

Foresight Plo instead of CLT was in the cards. I felt the 2x 4 dice bullseye is crucial in providing knock out blows when Ion lands, so never actually used it. Plinking damage in those moments is not enough, you have to drop the hammer.

Ion for Match. Broadside honestly lands enough :D

Extra damage early on has just been more valuable. It can turn the tide quickly, which massively cuts down the time the Jedi have to spend wriggling about. That sort of thing never really lasts long enough or scores enough points.

Plus Matchstick really needs to kill things before they shoot him quite often.

Mace for Plo is probably a thing. My opinion is that 5 is better than 4 more than 3 is better than 2....

Also, matching initiative is vastly underrated.

But we have Lego and I can borrow a ship I painted. Love Plo, so may try Mace for Obi when he rises. Probably have to shift a little of Match's damage responsibility his way.

Even small changes like this affect the way you need to adjust the play to cope.

You could go further I suppose, bring in Ion for Match and ramp up the Jedi offensive, but I think it's a much riskier proposition and will variance out a lot.

Would like to try the 2xARC, 2xJedi thing.... different topic :D

It's got the first edition blues.

Hi there! I've just bought into Republic after 2 months of playing the game (basically flying Rey).

I love the Jedi minis and the Y-Wing, so I wanted to play this list:

(62) Anakin Skywalker [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(7) C1-10P
(5) Calibrated Laser Targeting
Points: 74

(47) Obi-Wan Kenobi [Delta-7 Aethersprite]
(4) Calibrated Laser Targeting
Points: 51

(35) R2-D2 [BTL-B Y-wing]
(14) Chancellor Palpatine
(9) Seventh Fleet Gunner
(5) Ion Cannon Turret
Points: 63

Total points: 188

I like it on paper because it feels thematic (oh the face of Obi once the Chancellor they are scorting becomes a Sith lord...) and has janky interactions, although it's probably not good :)

What do you think? Can I add something useful or fun with the 12 points I have left? Thanks!

Either a generic R2 Astromech or an R5 Astromech might help with Obi. However, considering that Palpatine is in the list, perhaps an R4 Astromech might be better. One copy of Sense is also often handy, and maybe Heightened Perception on Obi-Wan.

Of course give Obi some kind of astromech, but the rest is fine either way. Bid or "tools to deal with not having a bigger bid" are both fine.

I've recently also really enjoyed playing with foresight, so you could add a copy to each one of your jedi.

I was thinking Heightened Perception, but in a 2 red die ship is not that good, and Sense looks fine to me, but I can't see any of my ships blocking much... I definetely run R4 in Obi though, thanks!

Obi is 2 red dice, unless he's got bullseye and maybe the Seventh Fleet Gunner backing him up, which would then be essentially 4 red dice, 5 at range 1.

As to Sense, you might run into Init 5-6 ships with larger bids. The thing about Sense is that a lot of folks run it instead of taking a bid. Maybe the Y-Wing also gets a Hull or Shield upgrade.

Foresight would also be pretty cool.

You are right, Sense looks more apetizing the more I look at it. Foresight feels right on Ani too.

What do you guys think of Ashoka gunner in a support y-wing?
