X-Wing becoming Y-wing ?

By Silver_leader, in X-Wing

With a 3rd faction having a Y-Wing in their hands, I wonder if FFG would rename the game Y-Wing instead of X-Wing :P .

They can also name is TIE Fighter, since 4 factions have a TIE in their ranks (scum, rebel, empire, FO) 🤣

Or YT, with 3 factioons with the YT-1300 ! :P

(this is only for fun, no serious discussions)

When is Resistance going to get Poe's TIE/sf?

Wait an Y for Resistance too...

But seriously, I don't think we need to rename the game over that.

We should just release X-Wings for the other five factions, instead.

Same time as Rebels get the Lambda...

How about we wait for Imps to get the Lambda first?

I hope they do get this, but only for a thematic event rather than standard play. Like, a mission where the rebels have a shuttle with special rules, and we get several pilots to choose between for list building.

I want to run a Triple Lambda list and call it “NERRRRRRRRDS!”

I want my imperial Sabine.

A “one-offs” card pack would be a ton of fun. Cards that don’t really necessitate a full ship release, but would add some nice flavor and call attention to nifty little moments in canon.

Han piloting a Lambda shuttle. Han flying an X-Wing (it’s in the comics). Poe in a TIE. Anakin as Vader for the Republic. Vader in a Defender (it’s in a book).

Maybe they’re not all tournament-legal, but are available for casual play.

That, or just a quick build card, with chewbacca as pilot, and Han Solo: Rebel General crew (ability tbd), Luke Skywalker: Jedi Knight crew (ability tbd), and Leia crew (same ability). That would actually be a lot of fun to try out.

Perfect!

3 ywingz is only 1 over the 2 xwings

Not nearly enough to overcome the X's movie pressence

Quick Build is Best Build

At the same time the First Order get Commander Malarus in Black One , probably.

Sabine's Y-Wing is X-Wing 2.5

Hey. Imperial Wedge, Dash and many other Rebel pilots who started on the imperial academy.

I would actually argue it’s about how many releases a ship has rather than how many factions they are in. By that standard, the X-Wing still has 4 separate packs it comes in (core set, T-65, T-70, and Saw’s Renegades), which puts it above the Y-Wing and YT-13 (both with 3).

Of course by this standard, the true winner is the TIE Fighter with 5 separate release instances. Sooooo, we should probably call this game “Star Wars: TIE Fighter”.

No.

Quick Build is not XWM the Real Game. I would want to use these cards outside of that very specific format.

N.B.: Read all the "nos" in Rey's voice for a better effect.

Y-Wing vs TIE-ish Fighters vs YT-1300s

Rolls off the tongue.

Except Scum has all three.

The worst version of all three.

I feel like this says a whole lot about the scum faction in general.

Sure, it is. Its a supported format that they are still producing content for with every release. It's not headlining Worlds, but its a part of the X-Wing game.

It also boils down the game into a format more reliant on decision making and less on combo-wing. That's not a slam against combo-wing as I enjoy the list-building aspects of the game, and have defended it in the past like the thread about Handbrake Han. But both pre-built and customization of units have their problems.

Now, its been awhile since I played 40k, but in ye olden times, there were known issues with certain Characters and Wargear combinations that just broke the game. This is analogous to Handbrake Han, pre-nerf SNR Vader, etc. The cards are ok in isolation, but in the right combination, they become too powerful.

WarmaHordes is another wargame similar to 40k, however they do not have Wargear/Upgrade cards that you use to customize characters. There are typically a couple versions of your leaders to choose from, and there may be an officer Unit add-ons you can or cannot decide to get, but overall, you don't customize units or characters that much, or at all. WYSIWYG. This would be similar to a Quick-Build game where you may have 2-3 premade cards of Poe, Vader, Luke, etc. to choose from in addition to all the other ships you build your squad out of. List building decisions are still important, units can have synchronicity with each other, but you have less instances of particular character + upgrade combination running away with the game.

Now, that's not to say its perfect. I think the Threat point system doesn't allow for enough granularity of costing, and poorly made Quick Build units can and do exist.

But, I still think the local QB tournament I played in over the course of a month was the funnest one I've played in over the course of my years of X-Wing.

I heard some theorizing about doing a draft with QB cards and found this idea intriguing. Did your local QB tournament do that?
