Clone Wars Units Shipping?

In fact I only want to play Phase II clones for aesthetic reasons and the wait won’t be fun when others have their toys before me.

See also: my GCW armies. I virtually restrict myself to only using the Hoth units. Because I painted enough normal Star Wars infantry in years gone by. Legion's been my only chance to collect big armies of Hoth guys in assorted poses though.

I'm going to paint one of my dewbacks white. In honor of you. (not really--one white and one red--fire and ice). I'm a big fan of my Hoth imps--my tank's white, too.

We all have our own fetishes I guess. :)

I do have juuuuust enough not-Hoth imps to play. So that I can use dewbacks. Probably going to paint 3.

If your money (and people like you) can't recoup the significant price of speeding up a supply chain, it's not really "lost" money.

No, It is lost revenue. If someone said you make 50 dollars of profit, but could have made 150 dollars of profit. That 100 dollars is still lost profit that you could have had.

FFG doesn't need to accommodate the needs of non-customers to succeed though. That's what proxy armies are.

This just shows a fundamental misunderstanding of how to run a business. How does FFG plan to grow the business if they don’t want to accommodate new players (non-customers).

Then you have people in the community (myself) who have the money to spend but would like a release schedule so we can plan accordingly. Your response to us is basically “play another game. We don’t want your money.”

This is how you shrink the community and push away customers.

The whine on this thread is strong

So yeah, looks like things will be late. Annoying, but at this point, I'll take any bit of news, good or bad.

Shame, but I can’t say I’m surprised.

No, I would say you have a very reasonable view on the matter.

I would say a big issue with Clone Wars and with Legion right now is that they don't really announce dates or orders. Usually they would just do a unit a month and we could easily guess what would be next. With the articles changing dates and the SWL numbers being all over the place we have no idea the order. Thrown on top the fact that the two new factions may not get anything for several months and that may cause a few fans to get a bit worried.

The schedule is still pretty easy to decipher when looking at announcements that occur separate from a big convention. It's the announcements that coincide with a convention panel that seem to throw a wrench in the timetable.

CW was announced at Adepticon in the midst of the Rebel Vets and Shoretroopers. Up to that point, you could pretty easily lock down that if expansion A was announced as the first expansion in Q2, we'd likely see it in late April. Second announced expansion for Q2 would be late May; third one would be late June.

There have been a few delays. The Specialists packs were noted as Q4 at GenCon but got pushed back to Q1. IIRC Bossk and Sabine were also a bit late and it seemed like the Downed AT-ST took quite a bit of time to come out before them. I think that's really where the "delay" we are seeing came from. Those expansions being a bit late seems to have caused a cascade effect for everything else.

What is really concerning to me is the huge CW preview came out as all one preview but I'm not even sure if we even know if those are all releasing the same month or if they will be scattered all throughout Q1.

I've read this several times now, and I still don't understand it.

"We said it's Q3, and it's still Q3, but it looks like Q4, but early Q4..."

Huh?

I never thought I would see the pirate meme in real life form and the person being serious about it. I feel sorry for FF and understand **** happens, but man they made it really easy to make fun of them.............. maybe thats was their plan!?!?!!?

I think he is trying some double speak of its not technically delayed yet since we are in September but it will be delayed so we didn't say anything because we didn't want to until October

But these hypothetical sales to the bored and impatient aren't profit. They're sales. If FFG had to spend too much on a faster factory widget or speedier boat to make that sale, it's not profitable.

Not in my experience. Those guys never convert to customers at the local shops. They just keep proxying the same broken unpainted 20 year old used minis for the latest game du jour. Or, for the latest broken army list in their favorite game.

No my response is "wait and buy it when it comes out". When I started Legion, it was because (and only because) I saw that there was a full Imperial Hoth army available. Veers, AT-ST's, Snowtroopers, and e-webs. Only I was wrong about e-webs, they wouldn't actually hit shelves for many months. Didn't bother me. I still bought 3 despite the lack of a release date. Would you really rather they just not tell you about Clone Wars till next month, wait till they're sure it's all on trucks to stores, then say "Clone Wars will debut next week"? Cause these people who get bored and lose their enthusiasm and spend the allotted sums on [other game] instead, STILL won't buy Clone Wars if FFG had never built that excitement to begin with. They still wind up buying [other game] instead, only, their boredom comes from a different place.

I throw amounts of money into hobbies that are insane. But it doesn't irritate me that FFG suffers from absolutely normal levels of supply chain problems. Hasbro completely screwed up their "retro" line of SW figures, seems like 110% of them were scalped on eBay by Target employees. I'll have hundreds of dollars tied up in reenactment items that take several months longer than the estimated shipping date, but the craftsman selling them has a virtual monopoly so I have to wait it out. I dunno. FFG's got issues, but, nothing unreasonable IMO.

that is the worst community post I've seen in a while. but yeah they do struggle to hit giant release targets from time to time and are generally be very very bad at letting customers know.

My money is on they are banking that it will come out on the first week of October. That way they can say they just missed Q3 by a week. My only issue with that is it seems like they have little control over when it really comes out and setting them up for more grief by really only giving themselves a week. Better option then going full pirate would have been to just say we will let us know as soon as they know.

I just like how they seem to update their website based on a spinning wheel with an arrow that points to different segments on the wheel that say "On The Boat" etc. and apparently each country gets its own wheel! That's the only thing I can fault them for. If the website is going to all over the board, just don't bother.

That is a very good question that I think we will never get an answer to. I mean the information is often wrong and they just get crap for doing it anyway, so why bother????................. Besides for the fun of spinning the wheel.

To be fair on these guys, my experience with container shipping dates from China are they rubbery and uninformative at the best of times, as are customs.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the trade war made this sort of thing commonplace (and worse than usual) among anything american based, it's kinda how China passively aggressively rolls.

Here's his updated response.... which isn't any clearer than the first one.

Sounds like there wasn't a problem until there was... On the plus side, Matt is at least trying. Gotta give him props for that.

Makes sense it was only recently they became aware of a delay meaning it is looking at early October

Just now, TheHoosh said:

More or less what I took out of it. Though, I'm still skeptical of pegging the date for release as of yet. If they're just now addressing the problem, it could easily take longer than a week or two to fix.

I am literally ordering a copy on Ebay right now. I am not waiting for FFG anymore. I'll consider paying the extra amount as an "FFG frustration fee"

Yeah, looks like it was always slated for a september release, but they only got delay info recently.

The original post never should have bothered with the "we're still in q3". That's just politely poking a hornets nest, even if he is right.
