Gate sealing and Arkham Encounters

By Medix311, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Maybe it's a rookie questions, but I can't find the clarification. When sealing a gate (with either an elder sign or clues) does this happen in place of or in addition to drawing a card from the location deck for an encounter? It would seem logical that sealing a gate would take up the majority of an investigators' attention for the turn, and be more desirable than poking at bodies with sticks or having a monster appear.

Thanks,

You seal the gate instead of having an encounter. Page 9 in the rulebook.

More specifically, as long as an investigator has an explored token, his only two options during the AE phase are: attempt to close gate, or do nothing. You can't have a random encounter, or even a special location ability (Science Building's Dissection).

Thanks for the clarification and quick reply. Don't know why I couldn't find it in the book.

Clear sign you need to read the rulebook more often. If you don't know where to find stuff by heart, back to reading gran_risa.gif .

Dam's got a point. If you haven't got the rulebook tattooed on your brain already like he does, you're not fit to run a session. Haha...
