While looking at this thread, I remembered seeing the following in the Fundamental Concepts - Measuring Range section of the Rulebook:

"While measuring range from ships, measure from the plastic base, not from the miniature."

Based on the above discussion, I'm guessing they should have specified the cardboard, instead of the plastic base???
